Well how do we meassure biggest? My heaviest was 23 lbs but it only had a 9 1/2 beard and barely 1 inch spurs. IMO my best/biggest bird was 19.6 lbs with a 10 3/8 beard and 1 1/8 spurs. I look at it like I would a Buck. My 130 9-point is my best/biggest buck but it only field dressed 138 lbs. I have killed a few heavier but much smaller racks. Just my way of looking at it.

This year I have seen several 19to20 lb birds, at the check-in station on Campbell, that were 10 plus inches on beards and 1 plus on spurs. Seems to be a lot of light birds this early in the season or did I just never notice?

I think I would get a bird mounted that is over 25 lbs, 11" beard and 1 1/4" spurs. Why those numbers? lol, sounds good to me and I have to set myself a goal.

Any one know the biggest bird taken in KY?

Is this accurate? --->NWTF keeps records for typical and atypical (more than one beard) eastern turkeys.

Birds are scored by adding measurements of the both spurs and multiplying the combined length by 10. The beard length is measured and multiplied by two. The spur and beard points are added to the total weight for the bird's score.

all from different birds but my overall best was 24lbs, 11 1/2 inch beard, and 1 3/8'' spurs. It scored around 73 and some change and that was the year I worked at uncle lee's and they won't let employees register! But I wasn't too sad It took me almost all season to get him, I think he had heard/ seen me bust some of his buddies.

My biggest bird was a 28 pound Butterball. I didn't kill it, but I carved it real good on Thanksgiving......:D. I had to do that guys. Seriously though, I've killed only one gobbler and two hens, both hens were with a bow. The gobbler had a 10 inch beard and 1 inch spurs, but only weighed about 17 pounds. It sure looked bigger but was my first so I'm not complaining. I'm going for my personal best this year, maybe I'll get an even bigger one.....say 18 pounds?

27.8 pounds on a digital scale. had 1.5 inch spurs. killed in the farm country of southeastern Iowa in spring of 2005. same year while up there we saw a jake killed that weighed 17.5 pounds. easily the biggest jake I have ever seen alive or dead. guy said he came in with a group of 6 other jakes and he thought he was a gobbler because he was so much bigger than the others. that bird would have been a horse in a couple years:D

My best over all best gobbler was taken in Lincoln Co. on April 28 , 2004 , it was # 5 in Kentucky with a total score of 126.3125 NWTF scoring and has been moved down to # 8 this past year . I also have another that scores #32 .It also was taken in Lincoln Co. I went on my first turkey hunt in 1966 at Beaver Creek , back then there was a weekend hunt in April , I saw no turkey ,but heard many drumming grouse . Back then Beaver Crk. and LBL were about the only place to turkey hunt . In 1978 I was lucky enough to get my first gobbler a 21 # two year old bird , since that year I have only missed 1 year turkey hunting , and my love for the Spring turkey season is still as strong as it was on that first hunt . My favorite call has to be the wing bone and I would be lost without it in the Spring woods .
