NC ks is a great place to start. I've done quite a bit of bird hunting in Smith county and it's gotten alot better in the last 5 years. Quail numbers aren't real high, but it's not unusual to point a covey. Plan the trip the week after opening weekend for pheasants. Quail season is offset by one week. Also expect to see some prairie chickens. They've made a surge in the last several years as well. All the counties surrounding smith are good and there's a good bit of public WIHA land.
