Anybody out here read the article in KY Afield about the rapid increase in wild hogs in KY? It talked about their rapid growth and potential hazards to the wildlife population such as turkey and deer. The article also goes on to confirm kills last year in several counties such as Scott, Henry, etc. I have to say, as much I would like to stick an arrow into a wild hog, I certainly am concerned about their existence in KY. Not a good situation as hogs will destroy a lot of turkey nests, eat a lot of acorns, destroy food plots and even eat young fawns. Keep in mind that wild hogs can have several litters per year and they seem to be very difficult to erradicate. Therefore, it looks like the population could continue its rapid growth, unfortunately.
Furthermore, the state is pointing towards illegal introduction by someone, for all the sudden sightings. I hope whoever did it gets turned in to the KDFWR. They are listing a reward if anyone has any info.

We had a local character that thought wild hogs would be great to have on his property. He bought some Russian blood and brought it up from Tenn. The CO killed them before a week was out. I don't think they ever proved he brought them in, but as soon as word got out they were eliminated.
Every sportsman needs to be on the lookout and report any genius that brings them to our state.

I live and hunt in Nelson Co along the southern border of Bernhiem Forest.
Yes, unfortunately we have hogs too. A fellow that hunts the same farm as I has killed a few this past fall/winter. a few farms over the word is that dozens have been killed.
Boone's Butcher shop in Bardstown can confirm the processing of said hogs.
I spoke with a CO that works Nelson Co and he said that some guys that went hunting in Arkansas bought hogs that the game farm trapped, placed them in a cattle trailer, hauled them north and set them loose on or near Bernheim. These people playing conservation officer are really messing with decades of research, and the cost to develop our fine deer, and turkey populations. This issue is very much endangering the position our Fish & Wildlife Dept worked so hard to get to, and for us sportsmen to enjoy.
The CO I spoke to said "kill them and kill them all...don't stop shooting until you don't see them anymore."

I live and hunt in Henry Co. and do not know of anyone that has seen a hog yet, but I sure would like to know where the ones from up here were killed, I would even give them a hand in hunting them.

I would like to post a couple of points for ya'll to ponder....
1. If wild hogs are that bad for the state of Kentucky, then why aren't they that bad for any of a number of southern states that have higher populations of wild turkeys/deer than Kentucky?
2. If they co-exist in those certain southern states, then why could they not here as well? It would certainly give Kentucky sportsman something else to pursue during "off" seasons. I mean, I would think anything that could possibly bring more hunting licenses sales would benefit all involved.
3. It seems that if the KDFWR's deem it "bad" for the state/sportsman, why then do so many people take it as "gospel" and not question the reason as I have seen happen on these forums numerous times?

Are you serious? All of the southern sates have tried to eliminate hogs, but once they hit a certain point, it's impossible. Nothing good comes from a wild hog infestation.
People will love their food plots getting destroyed.

I lived in Georgia for 8 years, wild hogs suck. Fun to hunt but they tear up everything, If you think elk are bad for emptying your feeders try hogs. They reproduce like crazy, farmers down south will gladly let anyone hunt for hogs. We (my brother and I) spent a week on our hunting lease every morning and night busting hogs, biguns, little ones, still didn't make a dent in the population come deer season even after we took out 80+ on 400 acres.

From what I hear wild hogs have indeed been confirmed in Henry Co. I was told about them by two local CO's. As far as MrHank helping to hunt them, he would probably sit on your porch to shoot them, or atleast in your yard!!!

If you can find the info(its out there somewhere) compare the number of B&C and P&Y bucks killed in the high infestation areas with the number killed in areas where the hogs aren't as plentiful. I guarantee you'll be suprised at the impact the hogs really have on the deer. I cant comment on the turkey populations cause I dont know anything about them other than whats here in KY

I live in Florida but grew up and still deer hunt in KY every year. Believe me, you don't want hogs!!! They tear up a forest floor like a roto-tiller, muddy pnds and streams and dispace other wildlife. I sow will have 4 litters a year and they start breeding at 6-7 months so--do the math!!
I don't think hogs are a good thing for kentucky. I note that someone stated the destruction they can do to a food plot. I would point out that to some them elk resoration is problem for some land owners. I thought it was great when I first learn of the program, but now I am not so sure. My mother has put a food plot out in excess of fifty years. It is the garden. Now yearly her food plot it destroyed by elk and deer. Fish and wildlife came and shot a few paint balls, yet she has pretty much chose to no longer put out corn. They told her she could fence her garden with electric. It did not work. Mom is not interested in hunting elk. She wants a garden. One mans elk is anothers hog.
