I have eaten them, I have found them, and had no clue what they were. When do you start to look for these delicous fungi?

When your on the shrooms, you generally see more turkeys.......and they are the big, yaller & purple spotted kind, real trophys!!.........but they vaporize, when ya shoot!:(

They are more mushrooms, that are edible, than poision. We just have a hand full of deadly species, most of the non edibles, just cause a little nausea/upset stomach........and the aftermath, that follows.:o

Never been on shrooms, but I know people that have. From what I've heard, you'd probably see lots of turkeys with rainbow-colored tails and strobing eyes, and maybe them break dancing under a disco ball.

it depends on the weather that particular year as well, i've found them in the 3rd to 4th week of march, usually small black ones, the white ones come in april

Its about time right now to start finding the blacks and grays. The yellow ones that most are familiar with start more at the beggining of April. As wet as its been, and these warm temps coming, this next week should be very good for finding some blacks and grays.

I have hunted them ever since I could walk. Like alot of others have said the ground\air temp. and moisture have alot to do with it. we usualy start finding them the last week of March and the first two or three weeks of April. We look around ash, oak, and poplars mostly something about the acidity of the soil helps them also. If it comes a small sprinkel one night and then the sun pops out and becomes humid the next morning you will find them like crazy.
