Wanted to start this off season thread for us grouse hunters to post training and offseason pictures Lets see all that hard work everyone is doing this off season. I'll start with my two mutts. Went out on Monday to work on some pigeons and the pups didn't let me down. They are pointing scent very well and show a little class. The will be 8 months old on the 14th.

I've got two young dogs in for training.....a 6 month old shorthair and a 10 month old Brittany. Here's a couple of pictures that I took tonight: the shorthair is Mike D's dog Abby. I think that he needs to have her DNA'd though--she acts more like a pointer than a pointer:) She's 25# of dynamite and hits her birds as hard as any that I've seen......she actually skidded 3" of mud the other day coming to a stop.

The Brittany is Steve D's 10 month old Trapper who is a big dog in a small package. He's lightening fast and has taken to his first exposure to formal training real well. I gave him two opportunites to back tonight, and he backed both AS SOON as he saw the dog with the second one from 70 yards away.

Good looking dogs. I hope my training days are over since my dog just finished his second season. He is 1 1/2 years old now, but this year he hunted like a 10 year veteran. Having the ability last year to put him over a bunch of birds when he was 6-9 months old was huge in his development as well as me being able to hunt 5 or 6 days a week.

I have a good friend of mine who just got a pup last week, and I am sure we will have many days getting that little dude on his way to becoming a valued field dog.

trust me

I wish you better luck than I had. With only a single dog in the kennel, you're a heartbeat away from starting over like I did.

My kids left Queenie out of the kennel one afternoon, and she was killed on the street. Only 3 years old, had a wonderful performance in Wisconsin just the week prior to losing her. I was looking forward to a great season with a fully broke dog.
