I'm looking to get my 10 year old her first bow. I don't envision her hunting with a bow for a while so don't need a top-notch outfit, but do want something halfway decent that she can form some good habits and cut her teeth on. Any suggestions or input would be appreciated, as well as any general advise on kids and bowhunting.

Thanks in advance!

Get a Genesis Bow that they use in the NASP program.

Have to agree unless you are going the traditional route.I started my oldest two out with a PSE Spyder and it worked out real well.

My son is 6 got him his first bow today, a whisper creek phantom, goes from 10 - 30lb draw weight. If im not mistaken they also make a bow that goes from 30-50 lb so you may want to check into those they can stay with them a little longer, i have a couple pics of my son shooting his on my new switchback thread in this section not for sure right off how well you can see the bow. If he is not to big for the phantom it comes with a sight rest, quiver, arrows and all for under $200.

Mathews genesis is what I would recommend. If you master these bows you will have very good technique, This will help you when you move up. My son (13) hunts a Spyder now, he learned on a genesis. He just won middle school regionals. He shoots on the high school team, our middle school doesn't have a team.I coach the high school archery team. Most of my members aren't hunters, the girls are getting better than the guys. The girls work ethic's are better. The guys just want to jack around and they won't listen. I had a girl pick up bow just 2 months ago and finished 2nd in the Regionals with a 272 out of 300.

when your child advances to the next step, i would suggest buying a bow that has draw modules so the bow can grow with the child, as well as a 10 lb or more adjustment range on draw weight.

Our local bow shop had a Genesis that she drew back and had to struggle a bit. I didn't realize these things were adjustable for draw weight, or that they come in different models. The whispercreek models are interesting too, thanks everybody for your suggestions!
