I bought my sportsmans license at a local store yesterday, they gave me the receipt instead of the license..

They did contact me and gave me the right license.

What would have happened if I had got checked? Would I have gotten a ticket even it was their fault?

Even if I had only the license receipt?

Yes, law says you need a licenses, not a receipt. You probably would have easily got it thrown out in court if you produced the receipt AND licenses; showing a honest mistake.

It wasn't the payment receipt

It is was one that they sent back to KDFW somehow?
It was green receipt that looked just like the license except. Only it had no place for name address other info....

You would have had some explaining to do either way. It would have been up to the CO.
Bottom line is you need a license that is filled out and signed.

I had the same thing happen to me at wallyworld. Apparently, the printer initially prints another form that either the store keeps or possibly sends in; to actually get the license, the cashier had to manually perform some other function. The cashier had initially given me the receipt first and not the actualy license, which I fortunately noticed before leaving the store.

My point is, a lot of the cashiers at these retail stores may not know this, so be careful and make sure you get the actual license before leaving. The actual license has a place for you to write in name, weight, hair/eye color, etc. and sign.
