Although we have some good ones, several are not the sharpest tool in the shed.
I think that in order to run for public office you should have to pass a test pertaining to the office you intend to run for in order to show at least some level of competence. PVAs and Court Clerks have to now, why not the rest.

I completely agree. Ive been saying that about thesheriff and jailer for years. Why in the world would you want a sheriff whos never been a LEO:confused: Or a jailer whos never been in a correctional institution:confused:

Sounds good on paper but in practice it doesn't work very good, at least with the circuit clerk test, from what I've heard. The Circuit Clerks themselves write the test according to what I've been told, so naturally the test is heavily, ridiculously skewed in favor of sitting circuit clerks making it extremely hard for new blood to get in that office. Plus I've been told there was a generous grandfather clause that exempted a lot of sitting circuit clerks who couldn't pass their own test in a million years.
Don't know if the pva test is similar but I have heard of way too many shenanigans with the circuit clerk test.
Lexington seems to be fairly clean on the surface, certainly not as bad as it seems to be in smaller communities. That maybe just because it's easier to hide? I think all the crooked people from Fayette county drive the 20 miles to Frankfort to hang with fellow swine.

politicians here just take turns. so if ya don't like the one in there now wait a couple years and get the one that was in before. same way on all the boards, same ole members taking care of each other. sad really.

At least it would be a start. There was a candiate for jailer in an ajoining county that was running who couldn't read or write, he didn't win. Also, a few years back, we had a sheriff who couldn't read or write. Left the office in a mess.

i wouldn't say dishonest, mostly confused about who they are serving. most don't spend their own money as freely as our money.

Every county is dirty. I have no doubt. Lets see our countys judge executive has been investigated for buying products from his business for the county and for "losing" purchase documents. County before him bought about $1500 a month in tile for ditches. After his election went to over $10,000 a month. All bought from his wifes company. So of course he has no idea about that. Lets see our Commonwealths attorney his best friend is a well known cocain dealer. Wasn't originally elected but, was appointed by the governor I think. Our judge exec has a hatred for our jailer. Makes tons of problems for him. Thats just a start of things.

Interesting thread-but I'll bet my bottom dollar we have more politicians - sheriff's- Mayors- police jurors- in jail than anyone!!!! We have an ex-govenor still serving time and an insurance commissioner that just got out. We've had officials re-elected while court cases were still pending. Geaux fiqure???
trust me

I don't think the current bunch we have are dirty, not yet anyway. They're all pretty new so I'll give them a few more years before the crap starts hitting the fan.
