Just kidding about the argument, I am all for deer stops on our snares if we can use most any lock. Dad snared this gray fox by the hind foot and tail. It was at a scoot under on a barb wire fence. A deer stop may have let him slip away, but, trappers in Ky really need a lock clarification so we are for deer stops.

I have used deer stops. However, I have also caught deer in my snares with out them. I guess I have been pretty fortunate when it comes to releasing them. My relaxing device doesn't lock down on their neck. Let them ware themselves out, then pull them up to you and cut the cable with a good set of cutters. The last one I released, layed there as I walked away, the next day it was gone.

We try our best to avoid deer and snare interactions. I will use a jump stick over my snare if I am setting an obvious deer trail. So far, I have avoided catching any deer, but I have my loops pulled tight occasionally. I always assume that the deer get their legs through the loop.

Yeah, I don't aggressively snare holes under the fence, if it looks like a deer has been going through, I don't set there. However, I have caught deer in places you would never imagine them going through. They are sneaky creatures or maybe curious, who knows why they get in them.
