So I understand the only year-round seasons are groundhog, wild hog, and coyote. I'm planning on doing a lot of camping over the summer in the Gorge, so is there any chance I should bring some birdshot and a 12-gauge? I mean, I've never seen a pig just up and running around.

You will need something better than bird shot to kill a pig!! LOL

I thought you weren't allowed to use slugs on pigs.

Assuming you mean the Red River Gorge, haven't been there in several years but when we used to fish there lots of pigs would keep you up at night rooting and grunting around.

Go here to page 16 it tells what you are allowed to use. After you said that I had to look to make sure.

I thought guns weren't allowed in the gorge? Is that still the case?

One of my friends says he wants to go down there hiking this summer. I think i might go too. Whats the terrain like? Real steep and rocky?

Some of it's steep and rocky, but not all of it. Most of the hiking is just a bunch of trails, but I always go off trail and do my own thing. There are plenty of rock walls to climb up and cliffs to fall off. It's an exciting place. Big too.

What counties is it located in?
Guns are and always have been allowed in the gorge.
As for pigs? Yep, plenty of them, none on four legs and I will bet you wouldn't want to bring any of them home, they might stay!

There for awhile it was on news someone falling off cliffs or being lost.

When I was in scouts we were looking at Grey's Arch and some idiot was getting right next to the edge to the right of the arch to say hey to his friends. He slipped and almost fell off about a 60-foot drop. I wanted him to fall...I wanted to see him get splattered on the rock. I am a terrible person.
I mean, it's common sense. Don't go walking around at night without a flashlight, and don't get drunk and try to pull a Matrix. You'll fall 50+ feet and die.

I have killed quite a few hogs over the years. I wouldnt even think of hunting with regular bird shot. Turkey loads will kill small hogs at close range. I would take buck shot if i was going to use a shotgun. Aim 1" behind the ear and 2" down. Up to 20 yards that will dropem on the spot.

Year round hunting is always appears to be a good idea, in March. When you get to those summer days of temps in the 90 & 100 it turns into a bad idea. The most I have done is some varmits very early in the morning. After that get back to the lake and go fishing.
