The best clover plots are usually planted in September. They will get several months of growth and have better developed roots; this will help control some of the unwanted weeds. If you plant now, you will most likely have weed problems this spring/summer.
After last frost, plant the area to a summer plot (soybeans, sunflowers, etc...), then work it up and plant your clover in early Sept. If you want to make sure deer are on it this season, mix in some wheat and cut it off after turkey season the following spring. Be sure your pH is where it needs to be, or you'll be wasting your time with the clover.

Good advise, plant Roundup ready soybeans early summer. It's a great way to get rid of unwanted weeds and provide a great summer foodplot. Plant you clover in earliy fall for the best results.
Get soil tests now. Applying lime now, will have ph right for this fall. Good luck

All of the above is good advice but if you want to plant clover in the spring you can. I planted red and white clover along with alfalfa in the same fields 3 yrs ago. I planted the week before turkey season opened and got really good stands of the clover. The alfalfa died out after the first year. I did have to spray for weeds a couple of times the first year (and have sprayed once a yr since) but I didn't find that to be any big deal because the plots are small.

We have some clover plts that have had clover in them for several years. we planted them in the fall, but we go back in Feb, or march and frost seed some clover in those plots. That way you don't disturb the current clover, and the frost seeding just makes it a little quicker. When we frost seed, we mix the clover with fertilizer.
