View Full Version : Got my "Booner" back.....

I got my buck back over the weekend. I think the guy did a pretty good job on him. I made the base for the mount because I wanted something to match our game room. Everything in our game room is cedar trim in one way or another. I also built a big bar out of cedar so I wanted the base to match it all. The top of the base swivels 360 degrees for viewing from all sides of the mount. I wanted to use a fence post along with scent bottle to create the reason behind the lip curl. I think we pulled it off....hope you all like it!!!!

Did you kill this in Kentucky?
nontypical2002
03-04-2008, 07:43 PM
The deer was taken about 2hrs north of Cincinnati. It was Allen County to be exact. There aren't too many B+C deer out of this county. It's alot of agriculture fields with small wood lots. I know I have 2 from this county....this deer at 197" and my 2002 deer which scored 189 4/8th. I'll have to take a picture one of these days of our game room we have in our basement to show you guys some of our mounts we have.

He scores 197" even. The taxidermy work was done by "Lieurance Wildlife Expressions" in Lima, Ohio. When standing face to face with the mount you're eye to eye with him. Kind of just makes you say...wow. It's a wonder something like that can make it through a woods. There is another buck in the same area I got this one that we've nick named the "Spilt G-2" for obvious reasons. He's about 3-4" wider than this deer and he does have spilt G-2's on both sides. I've been after him for 5yrs. I passed him last year because his rack was broke off from the G-2 forward on the right side. I got some real good video of him that night. We saw him this year only once and he was 35yds away from my son and I. My son told me to shoot, shoot but out of those 35yds, 15 of them had him standing on posted property. I just couldn't do it. He turned and walked back towards the orchard area. That was the last time we saw him "in person". I do have him on trail cam pictures.

That is a very large deer.
If you've shot 2 booners off of this property, and have had a close encounter with an even larger third, you obviously are hunting a spot where the bucks are allowed to mature.
I'd be interested in knowing about the size of the property, your management plan, and the hunting pressure (both on your hunting spot and other adjacent areas).
Congrats. . . .Super World-Class Buck (which is almost an understatement)

Don't have alot of time so I'll post the pictures and explain later. I will say this is the Split G-2 we video taped last year. This is a 5+yr quest. Sorry for the poor quality of pictures. I'd love to be able to post the video clip. Keep in mind that his left main beam is broken off at the G-2 forward. I took the pictures from the video...

The deer in the 2 photo's taken from our video is the buck we call the Spilt G-2 buck. This video was from 2006. You can see his left main beam is broken off from the G-2 forward. He was following some does right to us that night. He is REAL wide as you can see. If I could upload the video you could see for yourself. His brows are spilt also, he has 3-4 tines where his brows are. All about the same length. This year he wasn't broke up early like he has been in the past. We only saw him a couple times so we don't know if he's still alive yet or not. The deer I took this year was smelling in a fact scrape just before I shot him. The over hanging branches had scent bombs and tarsal glands hanging in the branches.

wow, I just remembered that in 2006 I had a buck that was just alittle bit bigger. If you would like to see a picture just ask. I guess that is why they call me the BUCK BUSTER, yeah cool. My buck was taken in New Haven Indiana, she was a monster. Thanks

i see movement anticipating the plight, of what may come into my sight, forworn of what may lay ahead, what will recieve this chunck of lead, feeling the thrills of uncertain hope, the target is clearing through my scope, the final word may say alot, I now open my eyes to see what I shot, my begging wish was for a buck, but what I got was a bright red truck, I'll struggle through the night to try and skin it, next week a hunter course and I will begin it.
