Everyone, it is URGENT that you call the Legislative Message Line and let your senator/representative, along with Senator T. Buford, know that we DO NOT WANT SB 206!!!
This bill was introduced Friday, and would appoint 2 members nominated by the HSUS to the Kentucky Animal Control Advisory Board.
The HSUS is a lobbyist agency with an animal rights agenda that we Kentuckians do NOT agree with. Let your voice be heard! Urge OPPOSITION to SB 206!!

I did it yesterday, and I asked that my opposition be shared with every Senator, not just my own. ;)
I read in Buford's biography that he's a member of the "Humane Society" (not sure if it's HSUS or HS of Ky). I've sent him an e-mail expressing my displeasure with his efforts to stack Animal Control with members that are against stridently opposed to any form of animal husbandry, not to mention anti-hunting. He's doing the republican party a huge disservice by proposing legislation that undercuts his constituents to further his own personal agenda.

Looks like the Board already has two of Wayne's group on it. If that's true, I think it will be a wise addition to include a couple of ARA's on there. That should teach them anti's a lesson or two.

Letter sent to Steve Robertson at the Ky Republican Party:
Dear Mr. Robertson:
My name is Ballard Rogers, and I serve as outside legal counsel for the League of Kentucky Sportsmen (“LKS”). I’m also a member of several other state and national sportsmen’s organizations.
It’s come to my attention that Tom Buford has initiated legislation (SB 206) that would revise Ky Stat. 258.117 and effectively require the two (2) members of the Humane Society of the US (“HSUS”) be placed on Ky’s animal control advisory board. Mr. Buford’s biography lists the Humane Society as one of his endeavors. As you may or may not know, the HSUS is an extremist animal rights lobbyist organization that considers virtually any use of animals for human benefit “inhumane”, including sport hunting and the use of animals for medical purposes. There is no reason to mandate the inclusion of two (2) extremist animal rights lobbyists to Ky’s statewide board
Sport hunting is an integral thread in the constituent base for Kentucky republicans. The LKS, as well as many other sportsmen’s organizations, view Mr. Buford’s proposed legislation as self-serving and designed to forward his own personal agenda rather than the views of his constituents and his party. At present, the LKS and other sporting groups are engaged in litigation against a Louisville Animal Control ordinance that was primarily drafted by the HSUS. Against republican opposition, this measure was passed by the council democrats until recently voided by a federal judge.
As a republican myself, I feel that the republican party will continue to struggle in Kentucky if it’s party legislators propose measure that are inherently designed to erode the activities that many Kentuckians hold dear. Sport hunting is high on that list, and seeing Ky republican senators pushing pro-HSUS legislation undermines the core values of the party base. Rather than trying to pass extremist animal rights bills that hamstring his constituents, Mr. Buford should be focusing his attention on more important matters in these trying times.
I urge you to contact Mr. Buford and ask him to withdraw his ill-advised SB 206.
Thank you for your attention.
Best Regards,
Ballard Rogers

It takes less time than it does to make a post on here. Do it people. Its easier to see that these people never get power, than try and fight their agendas once they get power.

Kentucky Sportsmen Must Defend Against Advisory Board Changes
Immediate action needed
Kentucky sportsmen's grassroots action is imperative to stop legislation guaranteeing two seats for a known anti-hunting organization on the Kentucky Animal Control Advisory Board.
The legislation, Senate Bill 206, was introduced by Senator Tom Buford (R-Nicholasville) on February 29th. The bill is scheduled for a vote before the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources committee tomorrow, March 20th, at 10 a.m.
If passed, the bill will allow noted anti-hunting group, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), to control two seats on the Board. HSUS will submit a list of three Kentucky residents of its choosing and two of those candidates will be selected to the Board.
The Animal Control Advisory Board is part of the Department of Agriculture and was created for evaluating applications for and reviewing disbursements from the animal control and care fund, creating training programs and other duties relating to animal control in Kentucky.
The passing of this type of bill will allow the anti-hunting movement to gain yet another foothold while setting a dangerous precedent for the rest of the country.
Take Action! Kentucky sportsmen must contact their Legislators today. Urge them to oppose SB 206, which guarantees Board membership to two people hand picked by the Humane Society of the United States.
To contact your Kentucky legislators, call (800) 372-7181 or use the Legislative Action Center at www.ussportsmen.org (http://www.ussportsmen.org/).

This bill was brought up for discussion yesterday, but not voted on. Until it is voted down there is a great need to continue to voice opposition to this bill until this legislative session is done!
So to answer your question directly, No this bill is not dead......It just doesnt have any legs right now and we need to make darn sure that it never does!
