With tempratures in the 60's on Sunday I had to get out and fish. I went to a very large pond around the house and tried to catch a few crappie. The bite was pretty slow and only caught 2 in the first 30 minutes. So I tied on a three way rig, a medium sized bobber and and instead of the "fly" I tied on a tube jig (with a 18 in leader). Pretty much the same set up as the float and fly except I used a jig and a 6 1/2 foot medium action rod. I ended up catchin about 20 in the next 30 minutes. My biggest was about 14 inches but was pretty thin. It won't be long now. All Crappie were of the black variety. I will try to post some pictures if I can get the file size down.

Bray,
Great job! Never tried the fly. Do you ever go to West Point with your Uncle Dennis and Jim? If you get the opportunity to go you ought to. Ron and I, went there 3 years in a row and caught a ton of nice crappie. I haven't gotten out yet. I am heading for Florida for a week later this week and I have an uncle that lives on the Harris Chain of Lakes and he has a boat. So I may go out with him a day or two while I am down there.

Hopefully the weather will be good on Thursday and I will be out trying a new lake. I might give this method a try too.

I have been down their once and the fishing is extraordinary. Dad and his fishing partner go down there every year. Those guys have crappie fishing down to a science. I am a firm believer that those guys are the best crappie fisherman around. Dad was fishing with me yesterday and said that the locals around west point fish like that for crappie when they start to move to the banks. All the fish we caught yesterday were in deeper water.
