To be honest, we struggled this year, we absolutely couldn't get the gray foxes to cooperate. We hit two or three pockets of them, but that was it. We had 2 or 3 weeks of complete blanks, but overall we had a lot of fun and we got pretty close to making our gas money back. I never worry about covering the price of traps or other miscellaneous gear. You must have traps and lure in order to trap. :D

Nice. Looks like you have the land sets down. Do you try for coons or are they not real plentiful in your area? Thanks

We have plenty of coons, but nothing like Northern/Central or Western KY. I think one reason we don't target coons specifically is that my Papaw was a coon hunter, and so was Dad, and as an end result, so was I. We never had many coons at all when I was night hunting a lot in the 70's and 80's, so we just got used to not killing coons when it wasn't necessary. Funny thing is, my son got the coon hunting bug real bad about a year ago and we got us a bluetick and have started hunting some. We don't go out of our way to miss catching coons, I will throw in a 220, or a 1 1/2 or a snare in a heartbeat if the sign is smoking hot. Sadly, this is the year to have a big pile of coons, if you take out that one little fellow in the pic (which was a Feb road kill) we averaged over $20 on what few coons we had. I was in total shock, I kept hearing that coons were going to be high, but I hadn't gotten $25 for a coon hide since the early 80's. We actually were going to start out targeting coons at the first of the season, but that notion fell through. Wish I had stuck with it now.

Thanks Wolverine. Our furbuyer mentioned about 3 different times how well our fur was handled, that was worth the trip for me. Dad has handled fur for over 50 years, but a lot of things have changed. I started getting serious about finishing our fur out better about 3 years ago. I felt like we were loosing money on the put up and we were. It isn't a mystery to get the fur put up, you just have to learn. The fur handling videos are the way to go if you aren't sure.

That was a 40lb male, it seems that most of the males we catch are either 40lbs or right at it, and the females are 29lbs, or right close to that.
