Here are our cats for the year, we sold to a fur buyer and had a $50 average. We would have probably done better if we had shipped them, but I was tickled pink with the prices. There were a couple of big cats, but there were a couple of small cats too. The bellies are just not wide or clear enough to bring the big bucks like the cats out west.

I admire anybody that can fill a wall with fur. It's a labor of love.

Pretty picture and nice job catching that many cats. Shame we don't get the money the other states get for cats, but it's still fun to see them in your traps.

I guess the cats are a Catch-22, if they were worth more money, there would be a lot more competition and that would equal fewer cats. Some of the sales out west have had $500 averages on their cats and some of the trappers are predicting a plethoria of cat trappers out there next year. But as it stands here in my home county, we have zero competition. There are a few who trap, but none of our farms overlap.

I have always assumed that our cats are used for trim, and the western cats are used for fur coats. A cat's worth is based on the fur thickness, how spotted it is, how wide the white patch is on the belly, and how "clear" the belly is, meaning the belly is entirely white with spots only, no brown or gray "bleeding" into the white. Our cats around here have too narrow of a belly and they are too cloudy to be used for full coats. But now this is only based on what I think I know, which most likely ain't right.

You know I never thought their could be that much of a difference in our cats and western cats..Let me tell ya fellas. Put a Nevada cat against one of ours and its like comparing Fur to Hair:eek:..Plain and simple.

You guys are really covered up with cats in the east. Here in the west we have our share of cats but if you look at the state telecheck numbers you all have more by far.
