Hey Stumed!
I can tell you from experience, that you will probably be very frustrated hunting that area. I've hunted around in that area for a lot of years, and I can tell you that the mature toms are limited and the hunters are abundant. For a beginning hunter, this scenerio can be very tough. Not only are you having to compete for the limited number of birds with all the other hunters, but you also have to be very conscious of safety. Anytime you get a lot of hunters in one area, the likelyhood of an accident of some kind increases tremendously. I've had guys sneak in on a gobbling bird that I was working! That's very dangerous not to mention inconsiderate to your fellow hunters.
So, in saying that, I know how frustrating it can be, because I'm in the same boat you're in. But use each situation as a learning experience, whether you kill anything or not. And whatever you do, practice safety and ethics each time afield.

Well, thank you for geting back with me. Do you have any other suggestions on where to hunt. I live in Lancaster, ky (Garrad Co.), we live on a 250 acre farm, surrounded by other farms, our drive way is almost a half long, off of H39. Now, I have seen Turkey just up the road from us, and have almost hit one last year, also One day Iwas driving be hind a guy on a motorcycle and one flew across the road and all most hit him in the head. This has all happened in the same spot, not even a quater mile down the road from our drive way. Our farm is mostly pastuer, with very few woolands and ceader thickits, and lots of cows. Do think it might be huntable. I have lived out there 3yr. and have never heared one Gobble, but where there are girls, don't you think there are boys. If I knew what to do here? Well, have a good one and GOD bless you.

If you are seeing hens, there is a good chance there are toms in the area. And the fact there are cows nearby isn't bad either! Turkeys love getting out in the fields and scratching through the old cow piles for bugs and things. The best advice to give you, forgive me because I know this is a repeat answer to other questions, is to get out and scout that area thoroughly before the season comes in. Scouting is the key when hunting any new area. You can find out where they're roosting, where they're feeding, which direction they are normally heading, etc. The information you gather on your scouting trips will go a long way in helping you decide where to set up on that big gobbling bird this season. And, as any veteran turkey hunter will tell you, your set up is key to killing that trophy bird. Good luck this season.
