One of my hero's sold out to the almighty dollar this week. :(
Emeril Lagasse' sold out to of all people,,,,Martha Stewart & her production company.
50 million and if sales go right,,,up to 70 million.
Sad,,,,,,, That explains why he canceled his "Emeril Live" show.
She got the rights to all his products, shows, ect,,, BUT she didn't get the restaurants or his Corp offices.
I think Charlie Gibson help Martha out ?
I thought that guy sold out years ago? When I see his mug on bottles in Kroger, that's a sell out.

No,,, that's just selling his sauces/spices and a face. Atleast he still owned the rights to it.

thought I read somewhere a while back that he wanted to scale back on his shows, cookbooks, and appearances so that he could devote more time to rebuilding New Orleans... If so, then this might be a win win for him. I still rate his Essence show as one of my favorite shows of all time, especially the older ones.

I heard this morning on the way to work that Emeril had been having problems out of Food Network. Contract negotiations went south and he bailed.

EXACTLY!
I have never understood Emerals appeal? In fact I found him sort of annoying. "BAM", "LETS KICK IT UP A NOTCH", "A LITTLE MORE GARLIC". Not bashing his skills because he is obviously at the top of his game, but I am just amazed by his popularity.

I think it is his theatrical approach and his genuine outward delivery. I have met him back in the 70's when he was a Chef for Commanders Palace in New Orleans. He walked out into the dining area and visited with several tables. His self confidence was very evident as he approached all the tables. His concern for getting diner's opinions was also very evident. I watched him set at 6 tables and talk to probably 40 people that morning. It was like the room just lit up when he entered. I'm guessing it has to be one of the smartest hirings the Brennen family ever did.
As for his skills,,,IF you watch him very closely you will see him burn stuff or screw up alot. I don't think that is from lack of talent, I think it is because he is trying to balance soooo much on the show at one time. He has such a diverse cultural background that some of his recipes are a mix of 4 or 5 different countries. Some of the pairings are just fantastic.
He has certainly helped to make the Food Network what it is today AND I think he has brought alot of folks back around to understanding that food is more than just something to make a stink pickle with ! It is entertainment, education, fellowship, community service, the list goes on,,,,
OK,,,I'm goin back to my breakfast now. :D

He just delivered the BAM in that deal. What about it ? Crest isn't food. I'm just talking about the food end of the deal.
Don't get me wrong here,,,,I'm tickled pink for him. I just wish he had not sold out to Martha Stewart. He has now lost control of what he worked sooo hard to build. THAT is why I am sad.

First off, not bashing your Idol, his delivery is just not my cup of tea. :) He sounds like a good guy. That says alot for him that he would take the time and come out to talk to the guests at his resturant. I always appreciate it when a chef does that.

Well, EXACTLY! :D
I don't like him much. He has always seemed like a sellout to me. When you put your name on a set of pots and pans that you wouldn't use yourself except for the fact that it makes other people buy them, that's being a sellout. That's being on the same level as Esteban selling his POS guitars.
And yeah, watching his live show is kinda silly. All those people drool over his every word and all the ladies are just waiting to bust open with giggles and clapping as soon as he says BAM.
I don't really have a problem with him though, he obviously knows his stuff and is somewhat entertaining. I'm just not nearly as amused as everybody else. I like Alton Brown tons better.
C.L.Button
02-21-2008, 11:52 AM
Alton Brown IS a VERY smart food person, but his background is totally different than Emeril's. Alton has a degree in Food Science. Plus,, I'm sure he has a serious research staff for the shows he does.
Emeril has a Culinary Arts degree. About the only science we learned in school was cooking safe temps, storage temps/times, bacteria names/types and some misc details. That is nowhere near the stuff Alton Brown learned in school. ;)

Yeah, I was just talking about personality. Alton is just more entertaining to me. It's like Rachel vs. that italian chick, Rachel is just more watchable to me. Emeril and that italian chick Giada just doesn't make me want to watch them regularly.

Aw dude, I would rather hear a chain saw cut sheet metal than listen to Rachel Ray. I do like Giada, but I could be just as entertained watching her with the sound on mute:D

Rachel Ray makes me want to shoot myself in the foot. If I have to hear her say EVOO one more time I might climb up on a tower. Giada's delivery is much more soothing, and she's a lot easier on the eyes too.

Yeah I don't watch Rachel cook. I watch some of her other things like the $40 a day show. I've seen one of the places she went to in Aspen, was kinda funny. They are famous locally for making these huge margaritas that are really strong. They edited it on the show to make it look like glamorous Aspen. Only problem is, it's literally in a trailer park. :D It is surrounded by old mobile homes, it's actually in the park. Kinda funny seeing it in person after seeing it on TV.

Rachel Ray strikes me as being just a step or two shy of seriously crazy. I don't think it would take much for her to be stabbing someone with one of her Rachel Ray signature Ginsu knives.
The Giada chick has the fakest smile on television. If she chopped her finger off while the camera was on, I suspect she'd keep grinning like a Price-Is-Right model.
Although he doesn't ever cook anything I like the guy with the weird hair who does the "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" show. There's something about watching a chubby guy scarf down cheeseburgers that I can relate to. :D

There was a guy on the trappers forum I go to that was on his show a while back. He had a hamburger recipe that made it on the show. Emeril invited him on there as well. Name is Benny. The recipe started with ground sirloin mixed with pork that was spiced with mint. It really looked great.
Oh yea that surfer guy with the spiked hairs name is Guy. Hes getting to be a big name on the network. R.R makes me want to pull my teeth sometimes and Giada makes me want to.........................well:p

Guy Fieri. He won season two of the next food network star. Dude can cook. He owns like three or four restaurants. He owned that before competing. He showed his chops during the filming of the show.
Giada is italian I believe.

I head a couple weeks ago the Food Network didn't re-up with Emeril. Of course, that could be like a lover scorned. I can watch every show on TFN but his. Way too full of himself for me. I can do without that Barefoot Contessa chick (Ina Garten)?) also. Seems like an uppity New England snob.

Ina has a sexy voice and a SERIOUS love of Butter. ;)
I think where she looses her appeal is that she was a Baker and measures everything ! Bakers are like that. :D
