Daytona Beach area

I"m planning a trip to stay in the Ormond/Daytona area 3rd week of May. I always go to South Florida for 2 weeks each year, primarily fishing. This year I'm going for more of a family vacation but still want to catch up on some surf fishing and maybe a deep sea trip.

I'm looking for some opinions on places to eat and things to do in the area!!!?!? I know a lot of people go there, but like I said, I've always went a few hours further south!!

We were down there a year ago for the pepsi 400. When you cross over the canal to the beach and hit the main strip take a left, go about 3 or 4 miles and there is a killer barbecue place to eat on the left. Yeah I know barbecue in Daytona, but it is great!:D

i think the name of the bbq place is hogg wild,also you have to eat at aunt catfish's,and if you cross the river at dunlauton and get back on main land going north about 2 or 3 blocks is a great mexican rest.

It depends on what kind of vacation you want. If you want out of the high profile of Daytona you could stay a little farther north in Crescent Beach area. It is more suitable for surf fishing is a lot less crowded. It's close to Marineland for the kids and St. Augustine is only a short drive away which has a lot to do for the family and you could make Daytona an easy day trip.
The link to Matanzas inlet shows the inlet and you can drive along the beach, under the bridge and along the inlet on the north side.
The other link is to the only hotel on Crescent. Its not fancy but it does have efficiencies, is reasonably priced and is a family oriented area.
Crescent and St Augustine beaches are where us north central fl locals go....not as many tourists:D

Go south towards the lighthouse. The deep sea boats, and some waterfront eating establishments are down there. the lighthouse is cool too. Walk up those steps and you will know if are out of shape or not. I also hear a new ferry is servicing the penisula over to the north end of New Smyrna Beach.

Everybody knows about the boardwalk in Daytona but just a few miles south in Daytona Beach Shores is a pier with a neat place to eat called Crabby Joe's. Not 5 star dining by any means but a good spot for you and the kids to eat and of course you can fish off of the pier. You can see the ocean underneath your feet through the boards. The kids think thats kinda cool.

If you are there for a week drive up to Saint Augustine and tour the city. Park the car and take the trolly around town. It is a guided tour that you can get off and on as much as you want. Lots of neat stuff there.

Eat at Barnacle bills. Oysters to die for.

As you can tell I like fried oysters... ;)
