Did'nt know where to put this but figured its more turkey hunting specific.

Seen these in the spring Cabelas turkey hunting catalog. Their made by the American Broadhead Company who also makes the Sonic head. Their made for body shots and designed to limit pass throughs. I know most of todays market is producing large broadheads designed for head & neck shots. However ...before they came along we used our deer hunting heads with a shock washer behind the head. This is sort of a trade off and like the looks of them if they would fly good.

I dont have any experience with these but was wondering if anyone has tried these.

What would happen if one of those "hooks" caught a wing or leg bone on entry? Would that stop the arrow from getting sufficent penetration?

I don't know, just wondering....

I believe I would get a ruling on this head before I took it to the field.....Would this not fit the definition of a barbed broadhead?

I think if the "hooks" were the other way around (pointing backwards) it would definetely be barbed.

Probably good advice to check it out first.

I think both of you brought up some good points..

Willie... you have arrowed your share of birds...you may be right on the larger bones. I dont know the answer either but just a guess ... I would think if you pushing enough KE ...it should break through a turkey bone...even a leg bone. When I first saw it ...I was thinking crossbow just for the fact some of the big broadheads specializing in head shots get in the way of the foot stirrup. On mine ..I'd have to either remove it or shoot a 26" arrow(bolt) to get the head beyond it.

Max.... not sure on the legal aspect either. The design is one I have'nt
seen before. Its 1 3/16 diameter but not sure about the "hooks". I really would'nt consider them barbed but it would'nt be bad to get a ruling on them either.

JD,

I killed one a couple years ago with my TenPoint QX4 (425 grains at 313 FPS) and Wasp Hammers.

I hit the thigh bones and the turkey went nowhere. He just sat right down. He could not run or fly - a turkey needs his legs to push off to fly.

I did not get a pass through. The arrow stuck out both sides of him though.

That was with a razor sharp chisel point broadhead. Not sure about the "hooks". They might break him down too..

I've been sold on Hammer's for awhile.... probably will stick with them till these start getting some feedback.
