i know the best op to kill a turkey with a bow is in a blind. but, does anybody on here take after them w/out a blind. where i hunt, not many fields and such and the stripped lands we hunt have alot of traffic so most turkeys stay in the timber. its hard to carry a blind up and down, up and down, etc. i was thinkin about trying it this spring with my dad. me with a bow and him with a shotgun. any ideas and info?:)

Hate to say this but I hunted the strips of Eastern Ky. (Greenup co) and it is best to carry a pop-up, even if it"s a little hard, you can set up early and set decoys. A little scouting prior to your hunt will help.

I'm going to try and use something to hunt behind this year. I'm going to use some camo material to make a couple "pop up" trees or bush to put out in front of me. Something that would be lighter and faster to use than a pop up blind. I think I could use a couple of these with some decoys so I can get drawn back on a tom.

I know of a guy who's killed over 30 without a blind so it can be done. You just need something between yourself and the turkey so you can get your bow back. So if there's not a big tree where you need it a fake one should work OK I would think.

I rarely hunt with a blind at all. Especially in the Fall. I use the lay of the land and natural cover to hide myself, quickly cutting some limbs especially cedar if they're around. In the spring if I am field hunting a well scouted area, I will occasionally use my Brickhouse blind. And I have killed turkeys out of it. I also have a couple of built blinds I'll put up a month or so before season to offer different options. But if a bird doesn't cooperate, I'm still going after him. I've killed almost 50 birds with a bow now, so trust me, you don't need a blind. But they are great if you want to take them. I still prefer some natural built blinds set up in different locations.
