never have hunted with my bow during the spring season, but i did think this year i may try hunting with my bow some, that is if the first of the season goes well for me. I did take a vacation that first week of season so may the last half I can take my bow. It would have to be total excitement.

You guys have my utmost respect. I always have an archery tag in the fall just in case one walks by while I am in my treestand, but to actually go after one in the spring, never have.

i never have either. ive heard its very hard to draw on them without a blind(ive tried it in the fall deer hunting). its too hard to pack a blind around in thiese hills.

I took my bow last opening day, sat in a blind since it was cold and raining that day till around 1:30, finally 2 gobblers came in to my decoys after just seeing hens all day and of course I missed shot right underneath them, misjudged the distance. The rest of the season I took my shotgun and limited out, but this year I will be back out there with my new bow again and hopefully I will get another chance and not miss this time.

Nice bird, Ken.

Mike Whelan and Tom Jenkins talked me into buying a Black Widow this past fall myself. :)

I've killed over 20 with a bow. I've missed more than that. The secret to success is head and neck shots. Body shots will yield bad results. The target is the same size, the difference is you can see the head and neck, miss right or left or high no injured bird, miss a little any way on a body shot and you've fatally injured a bird, even a perfect shot in the vitals will result in a bird that flies a few hundred yards many times.

You don't body shoot them with a shotgun, so think the same way with a bow.

Good hunting!

i have taken 13 with recurve and longbow and missed who knows how many and agree with css head shots are the way to go, i shoot the simmons 190s and have only lost 1 bird and that was a body shot a few years a go,, never wounded one shooting at the head

If I get one with a shotgun I might try to kill the other with a bow on video.

I've been lucky enough to stick a few in the last couple years. Here's one of my better birds from last season.

Well this will be my 5th year of trying with a bow. The first 2 years I could not get them in for a shot. The 3rd year I shot under 2 toms the and hit a hen in the fall however, I was unable to recover her. Last year I spent most of my time helping my son get his bird. I did manage to get a tail feather from a high shot and tagged an ameristep dog house blind. It was to tough to eat.
Good luck to all.
