The hevi shot turkey loads.

Does it seem to shoot tighter or just harder than lead.
What length and shot size are you all using.

i cant afford em! i use winchester 3 in mags. . ive killed 9 toms using the 2/4 in mags. but, if i could afford the hevi-13s id buy em. :)

I use Hevi shot in my 20 gauge and it patterns great. Only had one shot and killed a good tom at about 35 yards. Dropped him in his tracks.

I bought one $30 box of the Heavyweight stuff and they didn't pattern as well as the Remington Nitro Turkey lead loads in my 835. Just as well... they're waaaaaaaaay too expensive anyway. The turkey I got last spring didn't seem to care that he was killed with lead.

There are several different Hevi-13 loads out there but there are only 3 of them that give great patterns:


1. The old white shell with a rolled crimp - it has 1 3/4 ounces of shot. This shell is not produced anymore, but there are still a few of them out there. This is one of the best shells ever and likes very tight chokes.

2. The new bronze colored 3 inch 2 ounce shell - Excellent shell that produces very nice patterns. Does not like to be choked tight, and will start blowing patterns when you go tighter than .655. In most standard bore or Inv + bores a .665 choke is about right.


3. The new bronze colored 3.5 inch 2.25 ounce shell - Excellent shell that produces perhaps the best patterns of all. Likes the same chokes as the bronze 3 inch shell, but will take tight choking without blowing the patterns.

Avoid all the other Hevi-13 loads. Also I you are going to shoot lead shells, nothing is better than the old black Winchester High Velocity. It is an outstanding turkey killer.
