How tight is to tight? I have search the net and found nothing. I'm going to get a turkey choke for my sbe and I don't want to spend a bunch of $$$. I saw several that were .655. Is that to tight for a 3.5 #5's? The choke claims to shoot heavy shot and lead both well. The first sbe I had a Gobblin thunder .665, it shot well but I ain't paying that much for a choke. And I was concerned that the .655 is to tight. Any info?

There is a lot to be considered when selecting choke constriction. What size shot will you be shooting? What is the most likely range you will be attempting to take a turkey? My favorite tube for 3.5" shells is a .670. I shoot #5 Win. HV lead. In my 3" gun, the tube is .655. If your SBE shoots as tight as my guns do you better have a good sight under 20yds.

I've been considering The Ventilator ported choke tube (0.655") for my Remington 870 12 gauge. Anyone had any experience with this choke tube? I'll be using #4 shot in 2 3/4" shells.

The B-guns start with a skinny bore, so they do need more constriction in general than say a Mossberg 835/935 with the 10 ga. bore. The other thing to consider is 3.5" vs. 3". In the B guns, I would go .660-.665 vs. .650-.655 if you are shooting 3.5". The extra shot charge does not like the tighter constriction, just as someone else suggested.

You will see high end turkey chokes on web classifieds from time to time. A Kick's is a great choke, as is the Mad Max. If you want a cheaper choke, the Undertaker and the Primos chokes seem to be quite popular.

I agree with what every one else has posted on constrictions, i would go with a looser constriction if i was going to shoot 3.5". As far as chokes, i use to shoot a hastings, and it shot a pretty good pattern with the winchester HV loads. They are pretty cheap as compared to other chokes, also.

I currently own 4 turkey chokes for my sbe II. 3 comp-n-chokes and a Jelly Head. My tightest constriction and best pattern is out of my .640 and I love it. I have friends who shoot a .640 out of thier guns with great results but the cnc .640 cant handle the 3.5 loads.. Hastings makes one that holds up extremely well for the sbe I but does not make one for the sbe II. It seems like every year I keep trying to imporve my pattern and last year I had decent results out of the Jelly Head. I still like the pattern of my cnc's if they would just hold up. I also had issues out of a .660 swelling in my barrel. I had to hold an ice cube on the choke to shrink it so i could thread it out of my barrel.. If you are interested in a cnc choke I have 3 that I am willing to sell. .640 that has never been shot, .655 that has never been shot and a .670 that has been used with about 25 shots through it.

Check out the gun discussion on the nwtf.org forums. There are many knowledgeable people who post there. Try searching for your gun, but if you don't find enough information just ask about it. You'll have lots of opnions ...... :p.

Jelly head + Nitro 4 x 5 x 7 Hevi shot, hard to beat.

True. I am doing the same ammo with a Rhino choke at .690 with my MBurg 935.

But, to stay with the original question, with a .655 I would try #6's first.

It depends as much on the ammo you want to shoot as it does the gun. The SBE1 has a very tight bore. Unless you are shooting Nitros or 2 ounce bronze Hevi-13 a .655 is not likely to be too tight in your gun. Both of the shells I mentioned along with a few others that are less known like more open chokes. However, some shells such as Winchester High Velocity lead like to be choked pretty tight. In fact, a choke tighter than .655 in you gun would probably give better patterns with that shell and most other lead shells.

Good Luck,

Steve

Sure only an idiot would spend 70-80 when 20 would do just fine.
