Anyone ever used a layout blind used for waterfowl hunting to turkey hunt out of? I just bought one this last duck season, and have thought it may be useful on those windy/rainy days when the turkeys wont leave the middle of a field? Just a thought, and wondering if anyone had tried it. If someone stubbled the blind really well, seems it would hide you very well and give ya a way to get after the birds on days like that.

Only thing I see wrong with that is I believe from the ones I've seen you are indeed laying flat with maybe some prop up but wouldn't you have to come out of it by raising up quickly---to me that would cause the birds to spook quickly possibly resulting in a bad shot--I know it works for duck hunting but I'm not so sure on turkey unless I'm looking at it wrong--but heh whatever works

I would have to agree with notimlmit. I don't know how you would ever get raised up and on a turkey without spooking the heck out of it.

I had a friend that killed a bird out of one last year. He watched this gobbler strutting in the middle of a field for several days. One day he was waiting for him in a layout blind. He killed him at 15 yards, poped out of the blind while the bird was in full strut. He said it was a blast

I will have to practice shooting out of it to see if you can get a good shot, see your guys' point there... I think you can do it without having to pop out. Just a thought for the days those darn things sit in the middle of a field laughing at ya!

Luck to you just hope no cattle are in the field with you know what I mean---I could see where it would work also but I'll stick to a pop up for the fields

I talked to a guy that did it and he said its hard to jump up and get on em before they start flying, kinda tricky.

just use a regular blind never had a turkey mind any blind brushed in or not. we have a deer blind on a trailer its made of green roofing metal and is 6 foot tall and 4 by 6 shot my first bird of last year at 12 yards with it parked in the middle of an open field no brush at all.

I agree with these guys that raising up and shooting could be a problem. Is the blind the kind you can lay on you stomach or on you side in? If so, try that, just as long as you are pointed in the right direction.

I have a hard enough time raising up to shoot waterfowl out of those; I would think you would be shooting at a flying or running turkey (not optimal).

I have often thought about using one and just leave teh front open, gun ready.

I agree. Just use a regular blind. I have put a pop up blind in a wide open field and had turkeys walk within FEET of it. If i am not mistaken, i thought i saw a video on here where they did just this and killed a turkey.
I think skin_dog posted it, but i am not sure.
