OK im trying to finish out my degree and i need a political science class. what one of the two would you all take if you had to:

American Government I
Course DescriptionThis is the first course in a two-course sequence in American Government. The course is designed to convey basic facts about the structure and functioning of American political system. The philosophical foundation of the U.S. Constitution is explored and the federalist construct is examined. The functions of the three separate branches of government and their roles in policy making are a major focus.

International Relations I
Course DescriptionAn overview of the field of international and global politics. The nation state, factors of power, collective security, international trade, regional and international organization, sources of conflict and convergence are addressed.

Thanks in advance for your input.

depending on what school you are at dictates everything. i have had both of those courses at MSU and both are interesting and informative. it just depends on what you are more interested in.

I had American Government at Murray State, taught by Dr. Umar. Great teacher, enjoyable class, & I learned a lot. I would probably choose American Government if I were you just to learn more about how our own government works.

Same class, same school, same teacher for me. In fact, it was the very first college class I ever took back in 1991. Every American should have to take it and it was required when I went to school. Dr. Umar said the test that aliens had to take for citizenship covered American government questions that 90% of American born citizens couldn't answer.

Roger that, i agree every american should know more about their own. This class is entirely on line. I guess im just looking at what class whould be the lighter work load. My schedule is always changing. I figured that most people on here have been through college and may have some insight. I am just getting back into college after a 18 year break. I retire from the military in 2 years and need something to fall back on. With the credits i have already (from before i enlisted and what i have done so far i only need a few classes for an associates) then i can work for my BA.

I have taken several Government classes at Western, and I think
you can never learn enough about your own government, so i would take the American govt class.

I'm not in college, but to me the Government Class would be the obvious choice. You can never learn enough about our American Government.

poli sci major here, def. go with the American Gov. class! International Relations will be much more difficult and less interesting then learning about your own Government.

I was a poli sci major at UK, never enjoyed any of the international classes. They were pretty boring. Like everyone else, I would take the American Gov class.

I'd take the American Gov. class. Just hope you don't get a draft dodger hippy for a teacher like I did.:D I'm just glad Bush wasn't in office when I was in school or this teacher would have been like Sam Kennison in the movie 'Back To School'.

For me it would depend on what school I was taking the class at. If I was at WKU, I would take Dr.Yeager, that man is awesome. If I was taking it online through KCTCS, I would take it from one of the professors at Henderson (Maltby) would be my first choice. The there is a guy at Owensboro Community College who is suppose to be good, cant rememeber his name right now. Good Luck, I had American Government last semester. I passed with an B (89), couldnt squeak out an A.
