this is for a buddy at work

Marlin 30/30 (336C) - new last year
To mount the scope properly the front flip-up
site needs to be removed. There are no screws on the site so it must just pop out.
I haven't found anyone that knows how to get it out. Can anyone help.

That is a dovetailed sight that will have to be driven out from the side if he wants to remove it. A far better option, IMO, is to use the see-thru mounts that are available. I have resorted to using the iron sights many times on my 336C in .35 Rem. with the see-thru mounts. They put the scope just high enough that rear sight removal isn't necessary.

I have a marlin 336c, I just padded a vise and used a brass punch and removed it. Its just a dovetail, no other means of attachment. Hint: save the sight, put it away for the future if you decide to go with iron sights or sell the thing

Hey, I'm glad this was brought up! I have a Winchester .444 and I was thinking about putting a scope on it also. I was going to do as Quackrstackr suggested and use the see though rings. I was going to use the see though sight because I live in NH and most of my shot can be take with open sight. Is there any reason this wouldn't be a good idea? It seems like a great option now considering the rear sight may get in the way.

The see through rings have been on my Marlin for 27 years now, never had a problem with them. They put the scope a little higher but I've never noticed that bothering anything. It just gives you the option of using iron sights if you can't acquire your target in the scope for whatever reason or if your scope has been knocked out of whack (which has happened to me, missed on the first shot because the scope had been knocked out but those iron sights were still on!).
