I put a scope today on a 1967 remington model 572 pump 22 that my dad gave me. I have been after this gun for a while and he finally let me have it this morning. I also have a 1948 remington targetmaster model 510 22 single shot bolt action that my grandfather gave me a few years ago. So I took them out today and shot them and  WOW they sure don't build them like that anymore the 572 pump once I got it sighted in was dead centering pop bottle lids at 40 yards every shot and the targetmaster It shot a gatorade lid with iron sights at 35 yards basically they hit where you hold them. I love these old guns not only because they shoot great, but because they have been in my family for years and now I will get the chance to pass the down to my kids.

Don't be too hasty to pass those jewels on down the line. I suspect your old man didn't hand it to you till he was good and ready because he had a few thousand rounds left to run through it. You need to shoot your fill before they get handed down.

You won't wear them out, and your kids won't wear them out. Shoot a box or two every day till you die, and then let your executor decide who gets them.:) They really don't make them like that anymore.

My favorite rifle of all time was the .22 Winchester WRF my grand-dad Arnold (from Morgantown) gave me when I was 9 years old. Man, that thing could shoot! It was an octogon barrel pump action. I was so tuned into that gun at a young age that I could hit anything at up to 150 yards without hesitation.
It was stolen 12 years ago along with a lot of other guns, and I miss that rifle more the the $3000.00 Weatherby and others that they got.
If I ever see one, I'll buy it. I just hope it shoots as well as the other one. And .22 WRF ammo is getting hard to find!

I have a rem. mod. 514, my favorite .22 ever! A couple of years ago, I "blacked" the front bead and went squirrel hunting one evening. went with the old 514 because,I had been seeing some squirrels killed with some scoped "tack drivers",that were gut shot, ham shot, and in general uncleanable! The 5 greys that I returned home with that evening, just had "red heads", and no wasted meat! Its hard to beat those old .22's:)

I have an older 572 as well. Like you said, it will flat shoot great. It was my first gun, given to me for chrisrmas from mom and stepdad. Also have a remington model 33 single shot that shoots very well. Still hunt squirrels with both of these.
