I'm new to the site, and wondering what You Folks down in Kentucky Land hunt for upland.

We have ruffed grouse, cottontails, and squirrels. I go West for Pheasant, Sharptail, and Hungarian partridge.

Couple pics.

We have squirrels, ruffs, bobwhites, woodcock, mourning doves, crow, swamp and cottontail rabbits. I go west for everything else.

Nice pics. Looks like North Dakota.

Unfortunately, I think you'll find much more upland "land", than you will find upland "game". Most of us die hard small game hunters from KY put a lot of miles of our trucks and have several non-resident hunting licenses in our wallet to find "quality" upland hunting.

Hunted pheasant in North Dakota, Montana and Oregon and sharptail in North Dakota, Montana and Nebraska.

Me and my wife go to either wisconsin or michigan every year for ruffs. It seams to me that most of the others on here do the same

I've been to Wisconsin a few times. But of course, I thrive on agony and misery, so Kentucky grouse hunting is my favorite game.

Is grouse huntin' in Kentucky, kinda like "snipe huntin' " , in that it involves an imaginary bird??

They're not imaginary, but they sure can have you talking to yourself.

They're not imaginary. I've shot them in Nebraska and North Dakota. Photo is of a guy that shoots 300 plus a season.

I'm learning things already:) Ruffs are more widely distributed then I realized.

What a great game bird.

The Ruffed Grouse seems boom or bust up here. I've seen times when a walk in the woods would produce 50 + flushes. Now it's down time:( This past Fall a walk would produce maybe five.

My hunting partner for ten years was a big female Chessie, great hunter! would do all I asked and more.:)

Ruffs are found in the Appalachians from Maine down through Georgia. Ohio and Indiana are supposed to have a few as well.

Typical of a Chessie. They're just not for everyone.

I think of pointing as the dog standing game until hunters get there and flush the birds. Mine "point" in the sense -- depending on situation -- that you have a short time (usually under 2 minutes) before they bust the bird. They are a flushing breed, though.
