heck are "non-locking" snares?
I'm trying to get set up to start running a line, and wanted to use some snares. I have no idea what "non-locking" ones are, and before I spent the $$$ on some, needed to know if they were OK.
I'm planning on buying these: http://dakotalinesnares.com/snares.htm
if those meet state requirements.
Anyone tell me yes or no?

It's hard to tell,if you call them to order they can tell ya.Just tell them that locking snares are not legal here(Ky) & you need non-locking.
Not trying to stear ya another direction but I've had real good luck with these guys.....

Just done a little research on the new Micro Lock & it is a non-relaxing lock....which the way I take it is it keeps getting tighter.....

Basically, I need to know what brand/type of snares are KY legal. Apparently, we're one of the only states to mandate the nonlocking snares....and it's very difficult for a newbie like me to know WTH to order!
Honestly, that's the main reason I've waited the last two weeks....I'd have started to run a line, had I known what to get.
Any recommendations on specific snares that are KY legal would be welcome. Oh, and I'm going for fox, coon, and yotes, if that helps.
Thanks again!

Go to the snare shop & type in this number in the search or just click on this SNARE201 (http://www.snareshop.com/cgi-bin/snareshop/SNARE201.html)
This is their 5' 3/32 7x7 that is an awesome snare for catching everything from coons to yotes.....& you can get deer stops installed for nothing & they are legal in Ky,I think there about 15 buck for a dozen ....just remember when ya order to order ya a couple of rolls of tie wire & some stakes for places that you do not have something to tie off to while your at it.
I buy all the components from them to make my own, they are super people to do business with....I'm kinda partial to the little smaller cable 5/64 7 x 7 twist.....Hope this helps ya out.....

Go to the other post about snares (question about snares), and look at the picture I posted. That's one design, another is the Gregorson lock. You have to take the middle tab out of the Gregorson and they are legal for KY.

The law needs to be re-written to specify exactly what a "non-locking" snare is. It is far too open for interpretation as it sits now. If you ask 10 different people, you will probably get 10 different answers. There are some "reverse bend" washer type locks that several guys use that are supposedly "non-locking" but I have not tried any myself. Its funny, when you go to order a specific lock, i.e. Gregerson, Micro, BMI Mini, Cam-Lock.. etc, they are all called "locks". I ordered my 1st batch of snares from DakotaLine snares, they had washer locks that were pretty open. I caught two coon dogs in them, released them both unharmed. Caught several yotes, and several coon in them also... Were they legal by KY standards??? I checked with two CO's, got two different answers....

In looking at those snares that the Snare Shop sells with the "penny diameter micro lock" my washer locks looked exactly like that, just nickel sized......
