Indiana state troopers and conservation oficers and excise officers will receive their 1st pay raise in 3 years, with salary increases from 5 percent to 13 percent.
The Indiana Professional Law Enforcement AssociationLocal 1041 union, formed a year agao, ratified a settlement, effective through 2007,last week after 84.8 percent of officers voted yes.
Gov. Joe Kernan still must approve the settlement before it takes effect, but that's a formality because state officals participated in the bargaining with police.
Budget officals estimate the raises will cost the state $5.7million through June 30, 2005, when the current state budget expires.
Under the settlement, troppers with one year experience will get $1560 more-or 5 percent- to bring their annual salary to $32,760.First sergeants with 10 years experience will make $56,472 - a 13 percent increase.

I don't have a problem with the police anywhere getting a raise. It's a dangerous job that needs to be done. I don't think I have what it takes to do it.

Just for comparison, a one year officer in KY about 22K and a 10 year Ofc. makes about 34K and a 22year officer makes about 41K

Indecision is the key to flexibility!

Theres alot of places they can cut the budget but not with the Ky officers pay. That is pitiful pay! You can earn that at Mcdonalds. I imagine it makes it difficult to find qualified officers and then more difficult to keep them motivated.

Depends on which part of the State you work. If you work here in the Northern part of KY the pay is alot better than in the southern part. Kentucky State Police are very low paid for what they do. I may be worng but when I checked last time the starting pay for a Trooper Cadet troopers will receive $2,223.06 per month during academy training.

Upon graduation this salary will increase to $2445.38 monthly ($29,344.56 annually).

As for the Northern Part of Kentucky an Entry level Officer will start out at $37,000 and expect a 3%-5% increase each year with no top out! All insurance is paid and our Sergeants make $46000 and a Leiutenant will make $50-55,000.
