I went back into the Would You??? thread to pull out the names of the guy's who would report a neighbor in need for killin a deer to feed his family. Then I went to the southern roots poll to see how proud these guy's were of being Southern Rebels. Funny thing:confused: not one of the guy's who defenitly would turn in a hungry neighbor for killin a deer has taken the poll.

I seriously doubt that the answer to that poll has a lot to do with your location or whether someone took an online test and then bragged on their answer.

well shucks, let me mozy on over yonder 'n get to fillin out dat der poll to prove how suthern I am to all dez here undecided kentuckians. I was born and raised in a small cotton mill town in south carolina. They don't get much more southern than me! Married one of these undecided ky girls and ended up a tweener. you know, somewhere be"tween" the yankee's and the southerners. BTW, get north of etown and you can't even find sweet tea! How on earth can those folks claim to be southern if they don't have sweet tea!:D

I used to run around with a guy that had never seen a nascar race, let alone follow it. He would always scream out the Earnhardt war whoop during a brief split second of silence whenever we would be in the crowd at some big event like a concert or ballgame or something. It was hilarious.

I voted turn him in, simply b/c of the wording of the question. Had the question been: "Would you report a dirt poor guy that just lost his job, had no food in the fridge, had no other source of income, and shot a doe out of his back window b/c that's the only way he could feed his family", I'm sure I, along with a bunch of other people, would have answered the question differently.
Done some thinking..starting to soften up a bit. This is good:)

This added the extra dimension of "true need" into the equation. If I truly knew that the guy was "really needy", I probably wouldn't turn him in.

I'll concede that I wouldn't automatically turn somebody in, but the circumstances where I wouldn't are remote at best - probably less than 1 in 100. But you're right, I can't say with definitive certainty that it's an absolute. :D

I just don't have any problems with the people who say they would turn 'em in for any situation.

In my opinion the true southern thing to do would be to help your neighbor that is going through tough times and help him fill his freezer......

It would be as simple as given him or her a few bucks to buy his tags or better yet spend a couple hundred and fill his freezer and his cupboard.....

When the harvest is plenty for you is when you need to give to others that are less fortunate the most........

Poach, to feed your family! That sure is a poor excuse. There is alot of good programs, churches, soup kitchens, and neighbors that would help a family out.

I'm about as redneck as you can get. I don't poach and I don't put up with it either. I'm so rednecky, that I'm to the point that I like my farmers tan every year. I used to hate it, and make sure I had even sun all over. Now, I don't even like the sun.

Good post, I agree. Maybe I missed it but I didn't see where any of these "better and gooder than yous" offered to give up a tag for the needy. Seems to me that would be better and cheaper on the system than reporting, arresting etc.
