As I said I have some red foxes behind that live up in my woods my house and I can't get them to come out when I'm hunting them. They keep killing my chickens so I need to get rid of them. Any suggestions on getting them to come out of their dens so I can kill them with my bow. Do foxes move more at night then any other time more at dusk and dawn? And THANKS for the help!

Use a dead chicken as bait... set down wind not far from the den and pick them off as they go to lunch.

Are you sure it's foxes killing your chickens? Coons are also bad about killing them. I have caught a number of coons for guys that were loosing chickens to what they thought were foxes.

Yes I have seen the foxes do it, but by the time I get out there with my gun they are gone.

where do you live deer slayer? they can be trapped. were you using cage traps or footholds? Ive never been able to catch one in a cage but my cousin did. he prebaited it for a couple weeks before the season came in and wired it open, covered the bottom with dirt and grass so they didnt have to step on the wire. It still took several days after season for him to catch a fox in it though. he used bones from KFC. We had some snow that year and it was cool to check the trap every day and see where the fox had walked all around, even right into the front of the cage but not Any farther. then one day, finally he got caught. If you live close enough to me Ill come and give it a go if you would like. Just shoot me a pm.

You're going to have a hard time catching them around the den with a bow. They don't use dens very often this time of year and they are pretty solitary most of the year. Get you a bird caller and set up a good way from the house and use bird feathers for a decoy close to the caller. I've called them in using fox distress calls, rabbit distress and bird distress calls but the birds seem to bring them in the best. Anymore they are so spooked from the coyotes that they just run in for a quick look and you gotta have a quick shot to put them down.

Foxes are tough to trap if you don't know what you are doing, I've had good luck with setting a dirthole setup and suspend a chicken wing above it so it blows in the wind.

I've got a cousin that lives in PA that has trouble with reds killing his chickens. He stakes an old rooster out in the open close to the coop, outside his living room window. He keeps the rest of the chickens up and when he hears that old rooster start squalling at 1 in the morning a spotlight and 12 gauge fixes the problem but you might want to get some extra roosters if you want to try this, their survival rate sucks.
Coons, possums skunks and mink are bad about getting them too but they are all alot easier to trap.

Hope this helps.

The best lure I used has been a live rabbit. Buy you a $3 white rabbit and tie him up close to the hole and put your stand down wind a bit. He'll come to get the rabbit. If your there, you can take the rabbit back home with you and eat it or what ever. If your not there, you won't have to worry about what to do with the rabbit.
