Talk about giving in to the thought of getting " WINS " vs. Teaching Discipline and Lessons for adulthood 4 life.
This is how far Pitino has stooped to appease the U of L fans and their Alumni and higher up's. Back peddling from saying this ( Press Conference Statement last week about D. Caracter) the worst possible thing Derek has done. To reinstating him so he can play after only 1 week for tonight's game. I think Pitino has given up on teaching Caracter how to become a man, and is passing this task on to the next coach that gets the trouble maker.
U of L is all about Wins now, the mighty $$$$, and cares nothing about the true value of Discipline for taking the wrong actions as a player at U of L. This player was given a scholarship to the University to play and abide by the rules and regulations attached to that Scholarship. Derek can not and will not abide by the rules and knows that Pitino has no choice but to play him , if they are going to have any chance of winning and making it to the NCAA Tournament.
When Pitino was at UK, this type of behavior would not have been tolerated without discipline being administered to the fullest. There would be a 2nd chance to get their act together and get on the right path. But to award a 3rd chance and possibly even more over a 15 month period is unheard of.
As a parent I have given my sons more punishment for bad grades in school and other things in their lives. Than Derek Caracter has gotten as someone who is possibly close to the age of 21.
A one game suspension for breaking the rules in the first place and then break it again twice in a two hour period last Sat. is beyond belief.:(

Should he suspend him for the rest of the season for a curfew violation?

The curfew was put in place because of other violations. Even Pitino said that the curfew problems were just the tip of the iceberg.
I have always been a Pitino fan, believe he is one of the best. But he is taking alot of heat on this, even by the ones in the Louisville media who are buddy buddy with him.
He had a specially called press-conference a week ago. They broke into all the regurly scheduled programing, and it was this big deal. Said he was suspended indefinitely and was going to have to even move out of the basketball dorm. Most people thought it was over for Caracter and UL.
He was let back on less than a week later, and never had to move out of the dorm.
Pitino is taking alot of grief on this one.

You probably didn't catch the press conference after the game tonight. Pitino stood up for himself and his position. He basically said that no one really knows the extent of whats going on as far as what he has done or is required to do. He is tougher on DC than most realize. Pitino said that he has had a 7 day a week 9pm curfew since he got to school in August. He broke it once and was suspended accordingly.

You know, I'm old enough to take anything anyone can throw at me and then some. But I'm one of the people paying for this kids (Caracter's) education at U of L. He not only broke curfew once but twice in the same night. Big deal if he has a 9:00 o'clock curfew, I see nothing wrong with that at all. Give the scholarship to someone who wants it and will abide by the rules. Too bad Pitino has lost his gonads he had at UK, that's the Coach U of L needs these days.

Last week there were a lot of U of L fans hollering about another coach that starts with the letter P being a liar......looks like this week it's ok for another coach that starts with the letter P to tell lies as long as it ends with a W.

In the weight room at 7am, classes, homework, visiting sick kids in the hospital, ect,,,, He said that Caracter has absolutly NO free time. He is under somebodies thumb 24/7.
Now , you STILL think Pitino is slackin off ? Like I said before,,,take yo skinny a$$ over there and tell Ricky how to run his program. I want to be there to see it ! ORRRRR are you just gonna sit behind that screen and round off the ends of your fingers ???

Anything I say to Pitino, he's probably heard a thousands times before. I don't care if he's under house arrest. If you get a scarlorship to play a sport at a school for free from the tax payers. Then you live and breath by the rules.
These kids going to college on scarlorships are no different than military trainee's. Come into a program with "STRICT" rules. You abide by them and learn to obey the rules or your butt is put on the street. Only difference between Military Training and College sports. Military Trainee's learn by the 2nd week of what to do and how to do it and work as a team. Military Trainee's learn that if you don't work as a team, it can get you killed. College kids get multiple chances to get their "FREE" education and maybe be good enough to turn Pro in a sport. Most of the time it takes College Sports players 4 years to learn.

He his either a lier this week or last. Here is his exact words from last weeks press conference............."Some of the choices he's made are very serious in nature; we're not talking about curfew, which is a minor thing when dealing with him".

MSG, how much are you contributing to the CAF to complain about the cost of Caracter's education? Just curious since that was one of your primary concerns, complaints.

You don't really buy all that do you?
He called a 20 minute special news conference to announce the indefinite suspension. And now we know the definition of Pitnos "indefinite suspension", 1 game.
Here is exact words at the press conference......." Its going to be awhile because he needs to make dramatic changes in his life"
So he says that he is going to be out for a long time, and that he is also making him move out of the basketball dorm. Then he gets re-instated after 1 game, and won't be moving out of the basketball dorm.
Here is another quote from Pitino on Caracters suspension. " I would rather play with walk-ons than sacrifice anything more. Thats the situation, and its unfortunate."
Here is a quote from Bozich on Caracter in the Courier Journal......." "I can pick the rules I want to follow and follow them when I choose. I might sit a game. Might sit a couple. But, bottom line, this program needs me more than I need to follow the rules. Thats suprising. Thats not the Rick Pitino I remember, especially from his days at UK. At UK Pitino once made 3 players miss a game in 1994 against Tenn because they had succesfully worked a scam to substitue a better free-throw shooter in a game at Vanderbilt. Guys who didn't do things Pitinos way were eventually guys who were going, going, gone."
I don't have a problem with Caracters length of suspension. Just don't come out and make it this big ordeal, and then its only 1 game, and half the stuff you say is going to happen never does.

I'm just wondering why is it that "MsgMill's Life Lessons on Preparing Kids for the Future" advice only comes out he starts an anti-UofL threads about the need to stringently enforce internal team rules?
"The committee, led by chair Tom Yeager of the Colonial Athletic Association, used some unusually harsh and pointed language in chastising Sampson.
The former head coach created and encouraged an atmosphere among his staff of deliberate non-compliance, rationalizing the violations as being a result of 'prioritizing' rules," said Yeager in a written statement. He added that Sampson acknowledged the violations but did not take them seriously compared with "material inducements" for recruits. "The former head coach preferred to think of what he and his staff were doing as 'hard work' rather than cheating," said Yeager.
Heck, this apparent disregard for the rules can even be imputed to IU's President. . . . Sampson a man of the "highest integrity"???

Lets see, last night he did play so I would say you got your moneys worth. If your po'ed because your paying for his scholarship to play then you should be fussing because he's on the bench instead of the court.
