Just curious if anyone here can say they have been to the county seat of all 120 of KY's counties. I think it would be pretty neat to be able to say you have been to every county in KY. Don't know anyone that has, but it would be kind of a cool hobby.

I've been to a lot, but not all. I'd say 90 or so. Many of those I don't care to go back to.:D It is strange to travel around to different regions of the state and see the differences. It's almost like there are 4 or 5 different states within the state. WKY has always felt like a different state to me for some reason, maybe it's just the topography.

I went to Fulton county for some goose hunting years ago and that county and the land down in that area was so far removed from the rest of KY. The people are great, it just felt like I was in a different state.

I agree it does feel like its a different state. I really notice it going to Henderson about 10 miles outside Owensboro its like KS compared to what I am used to. I have been through or too almost every county at some point. Looking at a map there are just 3 or 4 that I can't guarantee that I have been through at some point. I might have to take a road trip to get those in...

Take pictures, keep good records. You are going to have a pretty sweet photo album when you are done.

I can't say for sure, but I know I have been close. I worked in Larry Forgys gubenatorial campaign after college, when he ran against Paul patton. I traveled with Larry everywhere he went, and I believe we hit every county in about a years sure time. Not all stops were in the county seat though.
Like others said, the diversity of Ky is one of the main reasons its such a great state. You go from the far corner of WKY, Fulton, Benton, Hickman area, to the mountains of EKY. Not sure any state has that much diversity.

The only state I could come up with for possibly greater diversity (geographically) would be CA. They have ocean, mountains, desert, and a large flat flood plain. The sun shines bright on my Old KY Home.

Oregon and Washington have the same, Oh, you forgot rainforest. Makes for an amazing day drive. Kentucky is definetly on the list for diversity though. Amazing difference from East to West.....beautiful:cool:

I am an amateur (ham) radio operator. One of the many aspects of the hobby is contacting “all” of something, such as all countries, all states, and all counties. The Mobile Amateur Radio Awards Club (http://www.marac.org/) (MARAC) takes this a step further by offering awards to those who travel to and then operate radios to hand out contacts from all counties in the US. I know several who have done this—an amazing feat that of course takes a lot of money and time and usually a very understanding and supportive co-pilot or spouse. One of my good friends has worked from every county in Kentucky. He did say that he was a little concerned about rolling through some of the more rural areas with a car with all sorts of antennas attached.

I know a guy that has photographed all 120 courthouses. He was single with no kids at the time, so that explains it.

That must have been when gas prices were lower. It would be cheaper to take a vacation to Hawaii now then it would be to drive to every courthouse in KY.

I can't say for certain that I have, but in all likely hood I have. When I was in grade school, in the summer, we'd go and visit various state parks. Between that and playing sports in high school and college, and just various travels myself, looking on a map, I can't really find somewhere where I don't think I've been.

Would you make some rule on how you would count the county? I have traveled to 41 of the US States. I would have a couple more except I have a rule that I must spend the night to count towards my list. Such a rule would make travel to all counties a tough task. I have another "list", visit all the Kentucky State Parks, I have five remaining. This list has been fun because you can camp, fish, hike, ect on each visit....

Hm, I wasn't thinking about an overnight stay (that would truly be next to impossible) but more along the lines of taking a pic of each county seat's downtown or maybe the courthouse, like the guy Trust Me knows. A person could even get a big county map made and color in the counties they've visited or something. It would cost a ton of gas money but it would be a nice hobby.

I've been to most of Southern, Eastern and Central KY but have never spent much time at all in Western or Northern KY. I think it would be a nice way to get a good appreciation of what an amazing state this is.

Sounds good, thanks! :) A person could meet a lot of interesting people just going around to the counties where there are forum members.

Many thanks for the invites! I don't know if I could ever get the time or the extra gas money to pull a stunt like that off but it is something a person could do over an extended period of time. A person would be in a fairly exclusive club, for sure.
