View Full Version : Kentucky Basketball makes me sick

I'm as big a fan of UK Basketball as you can be (well almost),but these growing pains are killing me.I'll personally be glad when we have an all Gillispie recruited team, then it will be more clear as to who we should complain about, lol
I'm with you bro. This is downright painful.
I am 110% behind Gillispie but I have to admit that I'm very disappointed in the play of the cats so far. We all know that we are down on talent, but we still have enough to beat some of the teams we have lost to. Gillispie seems to have trouble making adjustments to match the other team when they make adjustments.
At this point it looks to me like Gillispie's success is based on his recruiting ability much more than his X and O ability. That's not uncommon these days though. There's plenty of great coaches out there who can't win because they can't recruit the big names. Gillispie scares me though just a tad. He seems to be so hardcore that you can't help but wonder if the stories of his coaching style and brutal workouts will not run some recruits off in the future, like it did Legion.
It will be strange to watch the NCAA tourney this year without UK in the field.

Maybe thats why Kentucky hasn't signed him to a contract yet?

The cats will be fine, I know theyare struggling right now but if we had Meeks and Jasper we would have 2 more wins for sure and nobody would be worried. You think we got it bad look at the cards season so far preseason top ten too falling out this week. If BCG does count on his players talents more to win then his coaching ablilities then so be it, thats what we wanted after all when we were wanting Tubby gone someone that could recruit. Go CATS!

I doubt it. Gillispie deserves at least 5 years to get his system going. He's not coming into a team that won a Championship and was runner up the next like Tubby did. He's coming into a system that is starting a walk-on that looks like Napoleon Dynamite. We gave Tubby about 3 years too many and ended up having to pay him millions to get him the hell out of here. To get rid of Gillispie after 1 season would be the most foolish thing UK could do next to thinking about signing Tubby to a lifetime contract.
I think Gillispie will get us where we need to be given time. It's not going to be easy any way you cut it though. It will get worse before it gets better.

We are starting guys that shouldn't even be walkons at UK. Guys like Coury,Porter and Ramon Harris should never be on UKs team, much less get a scholarship to do so. Tubby left becuase even he knew we had poop coming back.

I went to the game yesterday, first time since the year before Pitino left. Good game, a couple of poor scoring spurts...not much offensive threats unless someone gets hot. A few of the players don't look to shoot and the ball handling is way short of what it should be. Overall, they should have won the game, but they are not better than UAB. Hated that Davis finely got the win over Ky. that he hates so much.
It will be interesting (and agonizing) to watch this team handle a full court press. The 1-3-1 zone press gave the cats fits. They couldn't (or wouldn't) get the ball to Patterson who could dominate that team by himself because the zone pestered them (still he had 18). BG made little adjustments to it because...I don't think there was an adjustment to make...Porter is just not the man to handle the ball (and neither is Ramel really--even tho he played well)....somebody get some superglue for Meeks' hip. I hope these core guys that are super talents stick around and let us build around them. In the mean time....ouch.

It cracks me up all the teams that go crazy after they beat us. It would be different if we were still good, we suck and these teams act like they accomplished something.
I hope Gillespie gets this team out of the gutter that tubby left us in...
With every game I watch I see more and more of how pathetic tubby made us.
I used to actually like tubby as a coach.

Takes a MAN to admit that in public!!!;):D:D
Tubby was not a bad coach, he just gave up on recruiting. There's more to winning than X's and O's.;)

I say give Gillespie a chance. He was left with total garbage of a team from Tubby. I stopped watching soon after Tubby took over. He is only wearing a championship ring because of Pitino.

I like to remember it as because of Scott Padgett, Chris Mills Jeff Shepherd and a couple more men that werent affraid to leave it all on the court......

We better give him a chance. Tubby's team plus Patterson stinks. Gillespie's team is, what 22nd in the country. I say give him a year or two.

We can't be throwing too many stones. We were crowing pretty good when we beat Alabama in football some years ago when they weren't so good. And with Georgia last year.

He's holding out for an NBA team to offer him a better deal, once he gets UK turned around and headed forward like Pitino had them before......:D

I hear that. . . .
Hell, after Va. Commonwealth beat a very poor Duke team last year in the tourney, you'd have thought that UK won the Nat'l Championship the way the UK fans on this site were crowing and carrying on.
And UK wasn't even the team that beat the Devils.

I hope I'm wrong, but I've been told that he hasn't signed the contract because it contains a "morality" clause that includes DUI's and things of that sort.
If it's true, I hope he's gone soon, we don't need another drunk for a coach. Bring in Ford or Pelphry, I wanted one of them to get the job anyway.

There is some truth to the part about the morality clause.
Also, as bad as they look just be glad we were able to sign Patrick Patterson. He has a long way to go but it could of been a much worse record than what we have. Thanks again to TUBBY for leaving us with such a wealth of talent on the team. You think Tubby could see this train wreck coming? I think so! Just a little gift from him, Donna and the boys!

From what I am hearing things are not looking good for Jasper or Meeks to return this year I hope you are right about Meeks. Our talent level is so far behind the top teams I think we will be lucky to make the NIT this year. I hope I'm wrong on that one.:( Jasper and Meeks could make a big difference in this team. We just don't have enough scoring threats on the floor. It makes us easy to defend. We can't go very deep off the bench and that forces us to slow it down. Not that we could score enough to play up tempo. Or set up any kind of press.
I do have alot of faith in BCG to return the program to a perineal top ten team. In the not so distant future. But it will be ugly for a year or two.
BCG was the man that I hoped would get the job. So I am with him until the end. And yeah I didn't like Tubby from day 1.
EDIT- I stand corrected. It looks like Jody will be available for tonights game. Whether or not he plays will be a different story. It may not be a good idea to play him IMO, but with this team being on the verge of a 4 game skid it's time to pull out all the stops. Wins are going to be VERY hard to come by this year without Jody on the floor, and still pretty tough with him.
According to the Herald Meeks expects to play tonight.

at the start of last year the first few games meeks played he made me nervous, i wasn't to impressed. he showed up to play by the end of the year, i look forward to seeing him play again.
jasper was good too. the only thing that makes jasper just good and not great is his shooting abilities. if BG can get his shooting up to par where jasper is confident to shoot the ball more often we may be able to do a few things this year?
thanks for your support guys, i thought i was the only one going loony every game!!! maybe they need to open up a separate room outside of the community forum for UK support group:D
