I am a weekend bunny buster and i wanna try my luck at killing some yotes. I looking to get a new rifle and some calls. I was thinking of getting a Bushmaster varmint AR15 ? Is bolt action better than auto? Also have a few small farms to hunt, but what about hunting yotes on public land (wma)? Is there any regulations if you hunt them on public land?

By all means get the Bushy,or a Rock River Coyote or varmint.Just because:).

Call me crazy but you will probaly get better accuracy dollar for dollar with an AR.

I'd get a boltgun (savage) you can't beat the out-of-the box accuracy ;)
I use a Savage model 12FV Varminter .223, it shoots very well ! The AR is also a good gun, just a little pricey IMO. My next will be a savage model 12FV .308 so I reach wayyyyyyy out there :D Ever which gun you pick have fun & enjoy the hunt !

My coyote/groundhog gun is a Howa 223, heavy barrel. An AR would be cool but cost a lot more than a decent bolt gun, I'm guessing. I got my Howa new for 250 bucks several years ago at a gun show - the dealer told me he couldn't sell it cause no one had ever heard of a Howa. I jumped on it and have been very happy with it.

One of those or any other cheap bolt gun would do the trick for less jack than an AR.

That was a poor dealer:o.The Howa action should be well known but i guess since its a knock off everyone tries to conceal it.Can't speak of Howa barrels but Howa actions are the same ones you can pay a premium price for.

Like i said you need a AR and you will not find a more accurate bolt gun at the same price though Savage does push the envelope.Coyote accurate is a different story.

Howa actually made the Weatherby Vanguard rifle. So the "premium" action you speak could just as easily be called a Howa knock off.

Stevens 200 (made by savage, its the old preaccutrigger model 110) in a .223 or 22-250. They are cheap and accurate. The only thing you might need is a after market trigger, I had mine worked on by a gunsmith I work with at the time to make it about 3lbs. I really like the gun.

An AR15 rifle fires from a closed bolt totally different than most other semi autos, thats the reason they shoot as accurate as a bolt rifle and you get the bonus of a instant follow up shot or 20 if you need it.

Some WMA's require you use shotgun or rimfire. You will have to check the reg's for those closest to you. LBL is shotgun and rimfire until february 1st.

You can't go wrong with the 223 cartridge if that is what your after. Either a good bolt gun or one of the ar types will do nicely. What you choose is up to you. Just make sure it fits you well. A good fit goes a long way towards consistant accuracy in the field. As for better accuracy bolt is the way to go. Although the rock river is getting a really good rep for accuracy in th heavier barrels. Jimmie

Check out the Double Star AR's they are nice guns and less expensive.

www.budsgunshop.com (http://www.budsgunshop.com) or www.centerfiresystems.com (http://www.centerfiresystems.com) are good places to find them.

I have a Bushmaster Varminter and a Savage 112FV .223. Both can and will dipatch yotes out past 350yds easily. I make 200 + yd shots with either. The Bushy gives you an extra shot on doubles.:)

contender w/24" tapered bull barrel in .223 ,50 grain nosler does the job every time. I guess thats why we call it the q-tip. It will flat shoot.
