That's the disposible bolt hold-r-backer. After you load the gun you suppose to pull it out and throw it away. Then you have five chanches to kill a deer and if you miss all five times you bend the barrel around a tree and you don't need the piece anymore.

You might need to take it to a gun smith and have them look it over. If you need one I know one in lawerenceburg that top notch, he's done lot's of work for a buddys dad. But check on remington's website and see if it's a part you can order and just replace yourself. Might save you some $$$$.

remington 710 maybe? go to your local dealer, have them ship the gun back to the manufacturer, or the authorized repair station for remington.
Sounds like an automatic. You might need to take it to the gun smith.

NO Keith it is a woodmaster 742 , grand father gave it too me when I turned 12 . I found the problem , it is a $5.20 part it is a (operating handle) retainer pin . I can fix it myself:D I Ordered the part , shipping more than the part , that sucks !!! But hey had it at a gun smith few years ago I think he knocked the same pin out too put the dust shield in . So I think he did not get it all the way back together . Thank god for the internet , found the part . Thanks everyone !!!:D
