I'm trying to not buy another gun. I have a Savage .17 and a savage 30-06. 30-06 shoots great but I didn't want to use such a big caliber when hunting yotes. Will a .17 get the job done?

Thanks!

In my book a yote is as tough as a deer, centerfire only! .17 HMR will kill them, with shot placement, but would rather use a .17 centerfire,or any other caliber legal for deer! thats my $.02 worth

I will have to agree with Barney, The .17 HMR bullets are going to explode on contact, causing mostly external damage only.

If you reload or know someone who does, you can load some 100gr-110gr bullets that would work great for yotes using your 30-06. You would have a velocity of 3100-3500 fps. Witch would be great for long range with a super flat trajectory.

I killed a Yote 2 years ago with a .17 perfect heart shot at about 40 yards she went 10 yards. But like most others I think it is a little lite for the job. I use a .204 and a lot of guys think that is small on them as well.
