Hey just wondering a 20 gauge is enough shotgun to hunt peasants, bobwhites and such? I am going on a hunt this month with some friends and never bird hunted before. I do have a older 870 W/M with a full choke but my buddy told me to let them fly out a little before I shoot.
So the reason I ask is because I am going to start shooting trap in the spring this year and really dont want to buy 2 new guns because I think my 870 (2 3/4 inch) will be enough for Turkey hunting. So what do you think? anyone?

Twenty is just right for bobwhites. Can't speak for pheasant.

20 is fine for pheasants as well. use #6 shot and you should do just fine.

You could also buy a box of spreader loads from polywad, they work. you can get some here:http://www.lcsupply.com/Product/Shooting-Accessories/

Or perhaps borrow a remchoke barrel from a buddy.

Twenty gauge is appropriate for all game birds. Choke and shot size are the key.

You can blow the head off of a Brahma bull with a 20 gauge under the right conditions. I shoot a 28 religuosly you wont have any problems. Enjoy yourself and welcome to another addiction!

A 20 will do you just fine and save on weight. I carry a 28 most of the time. But looking for a good 20 myself.

20 will be fine on pheasants inside of 30 yards with a mod choke and 5's or 6's. Full choke to reach out and touch em, but that really ain't too much fun. Alot of my buddies used 20ga auto's in KS. I stuck to my 12 o/u. They usually killed more than me, but I had 2 shots they had 5. BTW, guns don't have to be plugged for upland in KS, so before anyone jumps......... Saw my buddy drop 3 roosters once with 4 shots and 4 for 5 on quail. He was a pretty good shot and usually had to resort to blocking pretty early.

NO, NO 20 ga. If you want to hunt small game you need an 8 gauge punt gun. Okay, so its not legal, but would be cool. :D

I love my 20 gauge stevens 311A.
