Best? A Krieghoff, if you're Bill Gates' boy.

You better define your cost range. Also, is it a gun to carry over hill and dale, or are you planning to sit in a duck blind or on a bucket in a dove field? Weight is a big issue.

CZ and Stoeger make very serviceable O/U's at decent prices. From there you can go up the Brownings and Rugers for a grand or more and from there on up, the sky's the limit.

There may be an O/U or two on the Classifieds forum here.

price is the key. you can get a real nice boat paddle for around $300. then the nice guns start in the $1000 range and go up. You wanting a purdy gun or just one that shoots straight? The red labels are probably the best for the money and are on the low end of price at around $1200. They're light weight and very reliable and even look pretty good. The berettas are more expensive but are very attractive and great guns too.

Like Trustme said , you have to come up with a price. There are alot of good o/u out there. The price is the limit. K-guns, P-guns, Verona's , B-guns, Ceasar Guerinis, all good; different prices.

How much you want to shoot and how much you (or someone) wants to spend will determine a lot about your choices.

If your are going to shoot 3 or 4 boxes of shells a year then the Stoeger or CZ will last you for quite sometime. If you plan to shoot 1000 rounds per year you will best be served starting your options with the Browning or Beretta (even if your want to shoot 10,000 per year you can still start with these)

Price wise plan on: Less than $500=Stoeger, Less than $850=CZ, Used Rugers, Brownings or Beretta can be found around $1000, new models starting around $1200, then the sky is the limit.

If you can swing a grand or more get the Beretta or Browning. I doubt you'll ever wear it out. As much as I like the looks of the Ruger Red Label (and I really want to want an old model, blued 20ga) you don't see them in the hands of the top clay target shooters for whatever reason.

I've owned a Browning Citori in 20ga, a Ruger 101 in 12ga, and a friend of mine has a Beretta.

IMHO, toss a coin, all 3 are super nice.

Which is best ? The one you can afford and hit the target with. ;)

I have Browning, Beretta, & Bernadelli O/U's. I love them all.

It's like buying a car. Do your homework well and you will not be sorry. ;)

Back in September my wife & daughter bought me a 20 guage Mossberg Silver Reserve. It a import but for the money seems like a decent gun. I think they gave $432 in Owensboro. I added a Hi-Vis Spark bead to it and have shot a couple boxes of shells through it. It shoots good and all in all a pretty gun with better than average fit & finish. It's been the only O/U I've ever owned but I really like it.

That being said....I've always liked the Rugers & Berettas O/U's but I never did do enough wing shooting to justify the expense. The Ruger... could be wrong.. but is totally US made. The Bownings Citori barrels were made / stamped Japan. It's real hard to get away from the imports.

I think Guncats reply is dead on. Depends on price, then I would look at fit and how it feels. I'm partial to Beretta in O/U and have shot thousands of rounds through mine without a glitch. If its strictly a field gun Ruger should be fine. Franchi makes a nice field gun too. Depends on the budget.
