We had 5 mallards and a bufflehead drake come in early to far to shoot, shot anyway. Never had another bird work. Saw another group of 25 off in the distance, and had 3 more fly over and never gave us a second look. First opener that has really sucked. The only good news is the bufflehead came in. I have been hunting this farm pond for 10 years and never seen anything but mallards on it, and maybe some black mallards. Anyway how did everyone else do?

Two friends and I went out this morning... Got two mallards and two wood ducks.
Besides the ones we got, we seen probably 6-8 others... My buddy let a wood duck get away, and I flat out missed a mallard.
Had a good time and got to do a little shooting...
The fellow below is the only one I shot.

Woodies are still the prettiest of all IMO.

Never had a good shot, we got cut off from the guys who decided to hunt a boat blind in front of us. Sucks, we went to the draw and pinned a nice spot only to be cut off by a boat blind. Guess thats just our luck.

Well i cant complain. Oddly we had a group of 15 or so hoodies come in and we took out 4 of them and then a single later on. All hoodies. Missed a shot at some teal at shooting hours but missed out cause we were tryin for the young one to get the shooting in first. I wont complain about that anytime. Ended up with 5 not to bad. Did see a WHOLE lot of birds i believe some moved in last night.

I agree things are looking up. Hunted about 2 hours this morning. Killed 5, 2 mallards, and 3 teal. Should have been more but shot terrible. Something i noticed was at shooting hours we couldnt see crap. Had 3 groups of ducks land in decoys and honestly couldnt see to shoot them. Saw quite a few high birds flying the river. Biggest group was probably 50. Things are just right to get some new birds. Hope everyone has a great thanksgiving, and even better duck hunting.

No good for us today, had some teal land on us before shotting hours and saw maybe 11 more, but thats about it. I dont think the ducks are here yet.

Sounds like several others had our problem; comin in to early. We had several different small groups come in and land just beyond our spread. All while too dark to see to shoot. One of my buddies did get a loner tho. And then to beat it all, a dozen came in just as we had pulled the decoys and headed to the truck.

Ended up with 5 teal. Crippled two, and the dog could not retrieve them due to them diving. 1 was a mallard and the other im not for sure.:D

Only killed two birds today between three guys. We killed a hen mallard and a hen black duck. Had several birds try to work this morning but we couldnt get them to land because of the wind i think. They would cup up and then the wind would blow them around and they would fly around trying to cup again. Maybe tommorow will be less windy and we will have a better day. All and all it was still good to be out there and getting to shoot some.:)

Slept in. First time I have ever missed opening day of season. Can't find any birds to hunt. My honey holes are dry, so until we get rain, I will continue to sleep in.

07:10 am had a decent eight pter come in. 07:24 am had a bigger eight pter pass through. Didn't kill either one, waiting on a big one. Didn't waterfowl hunt, although it sure was cool.

Well when we got to the ramp there were already 2 boats in the water. Did not think we would make it to our spot. But we got lucky. 3 of us got 6 all mallards should have had 10 or so but poor shooting this morning not very good shooting conditions but thats always the story.
Anyone else doing good.

Yeah, must be nice! I have only gotten to go Sunday. Had several good large groups working, and as they cupped up and started coming into our spread some jacka## 200 yards away would start calling his head off at them, they would pick up and circle some more, cup up, he would do it again. Needless to say we were not happy. When we left we had to walk by the guy to get to our trucks, he asked how we did, and I told him some dumba## between us and the trucks would call at the birds we had coming down everytime so nothing came within range. He just looked like he wanted to say something but turned around.:mad:

Bad weekend on Barkley. No movement Saturday and Sunday. Newcomers on Thursday and Friday. Harsh weekend. Maybe after the split it will be OK.

Killed one lonely teal on opening day but new ducks came in by the thousands in S. Ill and Ballard Co. on Friday. We killed 12 (mallards, woodies, and teal) in a slough next to Horseshoe Lake. Saturday was about the same. It has been a while since I have seen so many new ducks in S. Ill and W. Ky. during opening weekend. Really need more water though. It is a battlefield over small puddles of water, most not deep enough for puddlers, only for woodies and teal.
