Mine has shot for years Rak. She likes the traveling that goes along with it and she is right at home with my friends. The ladies that do take up archery usually do like it. We are going to Snowshoe W.VA.to the IBO world for the second time in two years. Some of the shoots that you can go to make nice short vacations. Make sure she has the correct draw length and keep things simple. Don't pressure her and remember it is supposed to be fun!

Don't be surprised if she starts putting the pressure on some of the guys and maybe even you Good luck to you both!

My wife, a non-hunter, just asked me today if she could start shooting with me. I was FLOORED! She is against killing anything but has always supported my decision to hunt and even encourages me to hunt more since she knows I enjoy it.
I was not prepared for her to become interested in archery. I assumed she would associate it with killing and have nothing to do with it.

I don't have a clue as to what type of bow to get her. I know she will never actually hunt with it so it doesnt have to be that type, but other than that I don't have a clue.
Are there bows made for women? She is 5'11" so I know she can't shoot a childrens bow but not strong enough for mine.

I bought Natalie her first bow in 1996. It was a Browning Dianna. She would shoot with me in the yard and wasn't long until I had to shoot real hard to not let her beat me. She shot that bow for 3 years and then asked for a new one. I asked her why when there was nothing wrong with the bow she had. She said she didn't want to take a shiny purple and silver bow into the woods hunting. I was thirlled. She has been my sole hunting partner since and now we are joined by our son who also makes me shoot very hard. Nothing tickles me more than seeing my 11 year old shoot a 50 pound bow and nail the target where he is supposed too!

Well fellows, I have a different type of situation. My wife is becoming very interested in archery, in particular bow fishing. I myself have very little knowledge of archery or any hunting for that matter. I have only been turkey hunting one time up at Kleber WMA. So, I guess we will be learning together. I want to thank all you guys out there for all your advice.

Thanks,
Scott Swift

Do like I did Mule. Buy her a bow that fits her in the color of her choice and let her have fun! You do not have to hunt to enjoy archery. Just ask several kids that are actively involved in the Archery in the Schools Program.

Shooting a bow is no different than any other sport. You are trying to get a projectile or object guided by man to go from point A to point B. Simple enough?.....You all enjoy!!.....Rick.

I just saw an ad today on the hunting channell about a bow that has no set draw length and anyone can shoot it from me and you to an 8 year old. I never got a good look at the cams or anything.
Has anyone else seen this? Is it worth a plug nickel? How much $$$?
L A T E R . . .
PS thanks for the advise.

I seen this one time. It was on one of those hunting channels. I have a hard time understanding how it works. I hope some one can help you out. I would just like to know how one works. Thanks

It's a Matthews Genesis. The same ones the kids use in the Archery in the Schools program. They are good to learn on.

Great White....I'm ashamed of you. You should have known the answer to this question

The Genesis would work I guess just to start out with but I would much rather start say a woman out with a bow that fits her( a set draw length) The genesis is perfect for camps and clubs that are going to be involving alot of different draw lengths. But for someone that is going to take up shooting competatively I recoment some sort of bow with the proper draw length.

My girlfriend shoots a FORGE . Its a well made bow and shoots plenty fast for her. If she ever needs more speed she can get a set of 50# limbs for it.

Bowtech has several models of bows thatare made for short draw lenghts and low weight pulls, they are easy to setup and shoot very fast.

My wife has taken a big interest when I hunt and encourages it because she and her mom go on little road trips. And spend more than I do on arrows
