The buck I killed this year seem to be shedding his hooves.I know that sounds crazy but that is the easiest way to describe them.He had a loose outer shell on each foot that you could just about tear off with another perfectly fine hoof underneath.Anyone ever encountered this?

EHD survivor....messes up their hoves. He was lucky....for awhile anyway.

The last part of that sentence cracked me up.

There was one like that killed at Bernheim this year, I believe it was a spike. I told the guy that it looked like it was an EHD survivor. I think before I got done talking to him he was afraid to eat it. Told him to get in contact with a CO to confirm that it was ok to eat.

My son killed a nice little 10 point here in Indiana Saturday morning. It's hooves were the same way. It also had the ends of most of it's antler points rounded off and kinda black. I thought at first it had been rubbing a burned or charred tree. When I saw his hooves I remembered hearing about it it on the Ky. Afield call in show.

Multi is right I also shot one once the same way but after a closer look he had it bad and had to be thrown away, ribs showing threw badly, sores and still with velvet. I did check him in though.

All of the hooves on the one I killed on opening day of gun were like that too. I wondered if EHD had hit them too.

The guy I go hunting with, killed a doe that had the screw on top part of a military flashlight on it's hoof. It was like a toe ring, except it was a hoof ring. It must have gotten on there when the doe was young, because it was starting to grow into the top part of the hoof.

I killed a doe yesterday that had one of her eyeballs bulged out and turned milky white. I didn't notice anything wrong with her hooves and she looked healthy. She actually had a lot of fat on her. Do you all think she just hurt her eye somehow?

Could have had a case of "Pinkeye" or some type of injury.
