Longest season and largest bag limits in the US.

They have some prime real estate out there and lower hunter density than most places.

Yeah the left coast does WELL. Especially the northern areas. With these counts though you have to consider land mass. California is a lot of real estate, and as QS said they have a looooooooong season. bastards.

I dont undersatnd. Here we are in KY struggling to have a decent season every now and then with one of the shortest season around. But way out there they kill almost a million a year. Im sure were lucky to get a tenth of that on a decent year. Do they ever think to maybe lengthen ours just maybe during the time where hunting its good. Maybe shorten Cali by a week and save 50,000 birds that we still wont come close to killing here.
Another thing i dont understand all this money that is donated to duck hunting trough these organization do any of you feel it benifits us in a good way. Becasue if any one beside me has not noticed yet our seasons are on the down fall they seam to get worse every year. We have the shortest season with some of the smallest limit on duck and geese both. WHY I understand we are out of the fly way but 10 or 15 years ago im sure alot of you remember it was alot better then it is today.

We don't have a shorter season or less of a bag limit than anyone else in the Mississippi flyway.

KY doesn't kill the ducks a lot of states do because we don't have the habitat that they do. The Jackson Purchase is the best habitat in the state but it makes up only a tiny portion of it. Compared to those states who's boundaries make them run north to south, KY just doesn't have much land in an actual flyway..

your right the seaosn in the mississippi flyway are not longer at either end of the fly way but in the centeral canada zone the daily bag limit are larger by 2 birds per day on ducks and geese both.

California's season is either 100 or 110 days long. Dont know the exact numbers, hut their bag limits are alot more liberal. One of my buddies was out there last week. He shot limits of pintails, cinnimon teal, green wings and redheads. The cinni's he brought home to mount were beautiful!

The season's in that region can be as many as 105 days. Daily bag limit is 7 on ducks all can be mallards only 2 female and in some regions can be as many as 6 geese.
Be Nice to try once or twice

What would it matter to raise bag limits here? Heck I rarely get our six, or even our 4 greenheads. To be honest it has been several years since I did so. I wish we had more to offer the ducks. I agree it gets worse and worse. When I was still in high school and didnt know what the heck I was doing I always killed ducks. Now I look at those places I used to hunt and there hasnt been ducks on them for several years now. Every year I go into it with the attitude it will get better only to get dissapointed. I LOVE waterfowling, it's all I do anymore, quit everything else to commit all my time and money to it, but it's getting VERY VERY dissapointed year after year.

I have had this very conversation over and over. I laughed when they raised the limit on cans to 2.

Likewise, I have all but quit hunting anything to pursue this obsession called waterfowling. Now if we just had some ducks.
