Not a dimes worth of difference between them for anything you'll need around here. There's not a single whitetail deer in the world that you could shoot with one and not the other.

Check out the ballistics on the remington, federal, etc. websites. Apply the ballistics to your style of shooting. They are all good calibers. Consider if you are going to use it just for whitetails, or the possibility of hunting other game with it. If you are going to buy a new gun, look at the Remington 7600 pump, I love that gun. Good luck.

If those were my only 3 choices, I'd go with the .30-06 only because it gives you more choices with guns, ammo, and availability of guns and ammo.

3006 and 270 are long action calibers and the 308 is a short action caliber.
The 3006 will carry allot heaver bullets than the other two but if you only hunting deer then that doesn’t mean a whole lot.
The 270 shoots a little flatter.
The 308 fits in a smaller rifle and comes close to 3006 level up to 150 grain bullets after that it doesn’t have the case capacity needed for the heaver bullets.
It comes down to what you will be hunting and what your preference is. I suggest shooting each of them before you buy one.

My vote is for the .270 also. It's the flattest shooting of the bunch & does an exceptional job on the type game you are talking about. Bullet size doesn't make much difference if you can't put it in the right spot!
I've hunted with several guys that used big guns and couldn't hit a water tower @ 100 yards. I think it was probably due to recoil anticipation.
There's a reason tha the tried & true .270 is one of the most popular calibers of all time.

They're all great guns. I'm just a little bit partial to the '06, a few more options when it comes to bullet weights.

I own an 06 and love it. It's the first rifle I bought and I've used it every gun season except this one because I bought a new toy just for fun. With the 06 and the right bullet you can use it to take any game in North America. There has to be a reason it's been around for 100 years.

The '06 I believe is the best all around cartridge and gun for hunting. It was also voted best gun of all time by american rifleman magazine. There are so many variation of loads and bullet weights to choose from that you will not have trouble finding one for the game your hunting. This gun is good for any game in North America. Although, If your hunting brown bear I would suggest one of the magnum cal. I also have a .308. This is an outstanding cal. Low recoil and more consistant than any round out there. You can accuratly shoot to 800 yrds with practice and a good gun. This gun will make you a more confident shooter and would be an awsome deer and varmit rifle.:D

I am using my husbands sign on but: MY favorite gun is the Remington 300 ultra. mag. Dropped my Bull Elk last year, and Dropped my Doe this year. Never had to look for blood trail with this gun....
