I wouldn't want to ride a bike at night in rural areas this time of year.

Fatal motorcycle accident

08:25 PM EST on Sunday, November 18, 2007

GEORGETOWN, Ind. (AP) -- State Police say a southern Indiana died when his motorcycle collided with a deer and he was thrown from his vehicle into the path of an oncoming car.

Forty-three-year-old Charles Spaulding of Lanesville died in last night’s accident near the southern Indiana town of Georgetown. He was westbound on Interstate 64 when he struck a deer that ran into the road.

Spaulding was thrown from his motorcycle into the roadway and was then struck by another car.

He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident about 15 miles west of Louisville, Kentucky, by the Floyd County Coroner.

A friend of mine was killed in a motorcycle deer collision about a mile from my house. His 10 yr. old granddaughter was on the back. She had some scraps and cuts but was not seriously injured. I've had a close call in the very same place and don't really like to ride in the evening.

The problem isn't just at night. It was only a few months ago where a double fatality like this happened right outside of Grand Rivers KY near LBL, I think in the middle of the afternoon. It was on that double lane stretch between town and the road that goes across the dam. A deer just came out of nowhere. It was a husband and wife on the same bike. My grandfather is best friends with one of their grandfathers so I heard all about it.
