As a big youth advocate, I must ask to see a forum on youth Shooting Sports & Conservation Education. I'm active with the youth groups in the 6th Distrct of the LKS and have been looking for a place to post and recieve input for youth events of any kind to more involve the kids in our world. To actively discuss youth involvement and possibly plan events with other folks and organizations. I have been wanting to try to put together a web page but don't know how?

We've got a couple of programs going on in my area to introduce youth to archery that I think could be replicated elsewhere. One was recently written about by Art Lander in the Herald Leader and is an archery program that has been started at Whitley County Middle School. The other I helped get going through my local bow club and the focus is on teaching the archery merit badge to scouts at weekend archery camps. We purchased some of the new Matthews youth bows that are designed like a compound but don't have any let off. With no let off , there is no draw length and a kid from 6 to 16 can use the same bow. They work great. We teach arrow making, string making, give instruction in safety and other areas, and finish by shooting a 14 target 3D course. The last camp we had, we included a picnic at the end for all participants. So far this is going great. I hope to have some more info and pictures in an upcoming UBK magazine. Meantime, email me if you have any questions. I used to be LKS Director in the 9th District so I may know you.
