ok guy's i got a couple hundred mallards using the whole im going to be hunting opening morning. There is just one problem i about 99% sure that they are roosting there and flying off about 7:30 and flying to a location that is not legal to hunt.
Let me know you what you would do. Im thinking be ther ar dark to make sure that they dont roost there but then im afriad they might not be back the next morning.
Let me know what you would do.

I have bump ducks and geese off places, setting up in the AM,Birds came in later(Same ones) WHO KNOWS??????? I would never on purpose push roosting birds off a hole I want to shoot. IMO

We have a hole that sounds just like that. The problem with it is...that those birds rarely come back except for to roost. We get there about and hour before shooting light and just belly crawl our way close to where they fly out. They usually don't all fly out together...so we wait for majority of the birds to leave. When there is around 30 birds left we start shooting them when they fly out. Then ou can hunt it then next day or give it a break, but the birds will be back bc most of them were not shot at.

Your best bet would be to see when they start coming back and hunt it sparingly in the afternoon (if they start trickling in early enough) and then get out before they start pouring in at the end of legal.
If you spook birds off a roost right at dark, they'll more than likely be gone for good.
We never shoot a roost unless it's the last weekend of season.

I have to agree with quackr. Save that spot till the end of season. I know this is tough to do because we all want to kill ducks. Maybe you can see if they are flying to a LEGAL area. This may not be the case, but it can be worth a shot. It is your hole, this is only my opinion.

You could get 6-8 buddies and whack the !#$$ out of em opening day, and just find another place to hunt later in the split or hope for some fresh birds.:D

It's a public spot that not alot of people know about. But there are a few. If we dont hunt it opening day someone else will.

Sounds like you've answered your own question then. Just get in there and hunt like you would anywhere else.

well i got a up date on the roosting mallards. SEVERAL hundred 500 plus. i set deer hunting Sat morning to watch to see what they were doing. This is the first morning i have been there at day light all the other times is was about 6:30 or so. To my suprise there aree alot more then the 200 i thought. There is 3 or 4 times that many. Mallards some woddies and several teal and ALSO HEARD SOME PINTAIL'S AS WELL. :D But almost impossible to hunt because almost every one is gone by 6:10 or so AND im not jump shooting them. There are a few mallaards and woodies hang around but not many. I spent the rest of the weekend trying to find out where they are going. Alot are going to a private field. WHAT A SUPRISE HUH. bUT THERE ALL NOT GOING THERE. SO THATS WHERE I'LL BE BEFORE WORK AND TILL TIME TO SHOOT OPENING MORNING OUT TRYING TO PIN POINT THEM. GOTTA LOVE IT

What area of Kentucky is your hole located. Is there any water around that you can pinpoint them too or is it mainly farm ponds around the area?
Is there a river near by?

Good luck with whatever you do. We have two private ponds that are the same type of deal. ducks pour into one after shooting time and roll out before legal shooting time.
