My buddy gave me a call about some mallards on his pond but added there is one strange looking one in the flock so I went for a look. It is a bit larger then the Mallard drakes and quite a bit larger than the hen's. Real chocolate in color body with a white chest, green head so dark it looks black till the sunlight hits it just right then the green lights up. Has the mallard drake twister tail feathers. I did a search for what it may be because I have never seen one like it anywhere. Looks like it may be a black duck / wood duck cross. This photo is what I found searching and is this duck's twin.

Sure it is not a park duck that flew out of somewhere that has been cross bred. There are quite a few ducks that look like that here in BG on three springs. I think they are the rusult of offspirng from a mallard and a white duck, bred to a mallard.

That's a pretty standard color for domestic/mallard crosses.

That was my first thought. I would find it strange that a cross between a black duck and a smaller wood duck would grow larger then your standard Mallard drake. Whatever it is it's a duck of a differant color...:D
